Sorry guys. No more PSA stuff for this young kid. My wife of 5 years and I are finally gonna start the plunge. Once we get our finances in order, we're gonna start lookin for a house to buy (our first!) .. no kids yet, so that doesn't cloud the issue(s).
Anyways, as some have already taken advantage (with my higher end 1950 Bowman baseballs), I'm starting to post the rest of my collection on eBay. Of course, a few are in the current Superior auction and my football cards are with Rick at MintState (look for them to pop up on eBay shortly though- I've given him the green light.)
It's been fun. Maybe I'll show up again once my kids (if and when they come!) are out of the house...
Things I have yet to post that I would be more than willing to part with to a fellow board member:
- 1959 Topps Thrills #461-470 PSA 9s
- my beloved #1 set on the registry: 1973 reprints of the 1953 set (8 cards) See here!
- about 600-700 1973 Topps raw commons. Most are NRMT to NRMT/MINT. A few PSA 9s (I've sent in about 10.) Average was probably 7.5. Some 9s came back (just posted them on eBay already).
- a ton of random Nolan Ryan oddball cards and some regular issues from the 80s.
- a ton of Tony Gwynn PSA cards and regular issue cards and inserts
and if anyone collects tickets - I have a run of 3000th hit tickets (Yount, Winfield, Brett, etc. etc)
Thanks all!

John
I will still keep collecting, just a lot more focused and hush hush
Many thanks to those on the board who have helped with sharing their purchasing "secrets"
Top 5 things to tell your wife when she says you're spending too much money on sportscards :
1. Honey, I'm not SPENDING money, I'm INVESTING money for OUR future.
2. Honey, I'm not collecting these for myself, they're for our GRANDCHILDREN.
3. Honey, unlike the stock market lately, these cards are actually APPRECIATING in value.
4. Honey, if I weren't collecting cards, I'd probably be out in some sleezy bar, getting drunk, and trying to pick up on some floozy.
5. Honey, if you give me one more dirty look, I'll backhand you across the room.
Just kidding about # 5 ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
Good man keeping priorities straight. I got married 4 years ago and as long as I show that I can occasionally make some profit with the cards, she doesn't mind me spending TOO much. It also doesn't hurt that we already own a home and have a few investment properties.
And the conversations regarding how much I'm collecting have slowed to a dribble. My standard line has become "when you plant me in the ground, call Chris Porter and you'll get all of the money back".
Sets - 1970, 1971 and 1972
Always looking for 1972 O-PEE-CHEE Baseball in PSA 9 or 10!

outerbankyank on eBay!
Back in the mid 70's, In order to get the downpayment for our first house, I sold my vending cases of late 60's and early 70's stuff, my 57T baseball set, just lovely, well centered, fresh as they come for 400.00, doggy 52T Mantle, 75.00, boxes and boxes of nice 50's,.....I could go on. This is just too depressing to continue.
There's a lot to be said for a cardboard box under a freeway overpass and having a nice card collection.
What is your ebay name? That would help considerably.
Thanks
Honey, I have a budget of $100 per week(he said a month, but my wife is not that stupid) for cards. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
I gotta tell you though, it has been tough building the #1 1961 set on that budget.
And it will be hard to win some of Superiors 61 PSA 9's this month.
