My 1883-O Morgan in B+M Baltimore Auction

I decided to auction one of the finest toned Morgan dollars that I have ever seen. I purchased it over 25 years ago. I think its really a superb toned Morgan dollar specimen. But that is only my opinion, and as the consigner / owner of the coin I could be biased. If anyone is down in Baltimore and views it please let me know your impression by posting here if you have a chance to do so.

The link below provides a scan although the image does not fully convey the depth, coloration and richness of the luster and toning.

  • sorry the pic doesn't do it for me, however if it's nicer in person rest assured the floor will take it to where it should go.

IMO, based on the pic, I'm sorry to say that while the reverse has pleasant color, although not enough coverage for me, the obverse has neutral to negative appeal based on the sparse coverage, mottled toning and apparent lack of vibrant colors. Again, this is just my opinion based on the pic and I fully realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If I am reading the scan right, that could be a very nice coin. I have many toned coins I have decided that I will need to sell in an auction like this and not on eBay. I looked around, but I did not see any information on consigning coins to them. Does anyone know where this info is located?

    Morganluver,

Your comments are very much appreciated. Based on the image alone, I actually concur with your careful assessment of its characteristics of aesthetic appeal or lack there-of. However, I think the appearence of this coin in person is somewhat different, and I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has an opportunity review it "sight-seen".

Again, sorry, I wasn't trying to offend anyone and realize that pics can be very different from the coin in hand. My assessment was based solely on the pic provided. I'm sure it looks 10 times better in person. Good luck with the auction.

    Morganluver,

Thanks so much for your kind words.

I know it may seem amazing, but as I can best recall this coin is actually toned pretty much over its entire surface. I don't know how the internet auction image came out that way.

My interest was primarily in getting opinions on it as I have been basically out of the coin market scene for several years and was under the impression that nicely toned morgans are being collected avidly at this time. I am just now putting some coins from my collection (graded / slabbed over the past few years) which I purchased over 25 years ago (I never purchased a slabbed coin). This coin has the kind of toning that 25 years ago was considered desirable and original, but I am kind of out of touch with the present aesthetic standards and was anxious to get some feedback on the subject.

Thanks again to you and everyone who commented on the available internet images and thanks in advance to anyone in Baltimore who has a chance to offer their comments.
