"Perils of Early Copper" Counter Argumentus Erectus

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I posted that 'perils of early copper' message the other day partly because I follow these coins pretty closely from original auction appearance to eventual retail and re-retail, partly because I was bored, and partly to get a totally non-romantic rise out of people.

Those who were busy jumping to conclusions like Greg Louganis off of the 3-meter board seemingly incorrectly concluded that mine was an Anaconda / coin bashing theme, whereas my conclusion was actually that PCGS grading standards and inexperienced buyers were the bane of modern day numismatics.

And other than a couple of people who responded quoting Adam Smith, and one guy who wanted to talk about Graysheet bids, I don't think anyone responded to my earlier post with the counter-rgument I was expecting:

Namely that PCGS slabs are helping expose new coins to new people who wouldn't be buying them otherwise, and the prices they are commanding, while seemingly high, are suggestive that these rare pieces of Americana have been historically very undervalued. In fairness Anaconda hinted at the 'new people' issue.

And Anaconda, through some of the best marketing and photography (and inventory) in the biz is doing a better job than Stacks with their rich traditon, NY storefront, signficant resources and large, air-filled egos which suggests that all this talk about the new E-economy is being demonstrated right here in our forum like some kind of executive education class at your local university.

So this is all positive and joy was felt by all.

Good day.

i think it's a fair statement to make, that pcgs has nothing to do with numismatics.

which is exactly what i mean. by far, most of those "new" people are accumulators, yes, numismatists, he11 no.
