I do not think that 65 is realistic. Too much abrasion on it. Plus it looks "soft" - almost like a whiz job...If not whizzed, then a 63 at best.

63 or 64 depending upon other qualities that don't show up in that pic.

Appears to be in an ICG holder. Plastic and picture make it tough to tell.

I know the seller you are referring to since the picture is hosted on their domain. It is hard to judge the grade from a washed out scan. I can give you some advice though knowing this seller and people who have bought raw coins from them. Be very skeptical about the grades they represent their raw coins to be. With some of the junk on eBay, you would be well advised to stick with repected third party graded coins (PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG) when buying MS64 and above.

Whizzing is a general term for taking a rotary brush (or other rotary device) and polishing the surface of a coin to re-create luster. It's not as common nowadays as it tends to be very obvious.

Curious who defined it as 65 (who graded it)?

Those abrasions appear to be very light and may not be as noticeable in "actual size," but based on this large image and the fact I am unable to visualize the coin without the abrasions, I would think it NOT a 65.

Let me put it this way: The four coins I last submitted had fewer contact marks than this one, and were graded MS63. Those grades have put me in the mindset that I should go out and buy a bunch of PCGSs previously slabbed coins, that would be overgraded using the four coins I mentioned as comparison, and challenge them to pay me the difference -- maybe the impact on their wallet will demonstrate how "fluctuating standards" impact collectors' wallet, buying and selling.

This coin is an 1883-CC in a GSA holder, and could very well be an MS65 coin based on how CC-Morgans are graded.

Seller may think it's a 65+ (my posterior), but I would pay 63 money at best.

It's a Blue Moon auction. Translates to "overgraded!"
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I played with the images a little bit, and I can say, without a doubt, that even though it is a GSA CC, there is no way it will make 65. There is a pretty good hit on the chin, and some rather prominent marks in the left field. 64 at best IMO, and maybe not even that if the washed out scan is hiding a lot of smaller chatter in the fields.

Bob, this coin would be an MS65+ in an ACG holder on any day. However, you asked if it's a "real" MS65. I can only answer your question with a question: Do donkey's fly? That being said, I think the price is fair and it's not a bad coin. You can find GSA's anywhere for similar prices. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
