With that halo effect the coin should be refered to as

"The Saint Winged Liberty Dime". Dont worry about the bear, dont collect dimes.

    But if I did ,welllllllllllllllllllll......................................................................................

Well, since you showed the image it looks like a coin imaged by the seller Greattoning.

Gee, that looks "exactly" like the ANACONDA 37S, auctioned several months ago and bought by rainbowroosie for STUPID moneyimageimage

You can be assured that it would not even garner a token bid by me.

You mean if I post a coin here, nobody gets to bid on it?

I think I'll link my watch list to my signature line.

It's kinda like the guy in the car commercial that licks the door handle.

    LOL.

    BMW right?

    That one cracked me up.

    Nice toner J.
    Whats the rev look like.

    Anyone got a link?
  • If that coin were raw, would everyone agree that the toning is original? Would be an intersting cross to PCGS.

Since you mention the issue, I have some doubts. The halo seems as if a substance was sprinkled

on the coin and baked. I am no expert on this, just a gut feeling.

    hmm its not this one......

    BTW I like this one,,,,that one.......my link.Same grade and date,but a D mintmark.

    Both look great.
    In top plastics too.

  • Bear,
We share the same thought on that. Everything I've learned about toning, I've learned on this board. Here's why I raised the question: Why isn't there virtually no peripheral toning? If you look closely at the rims, you can see spots of toning, but it's not consistent with the rest of the coin. It could be end roll toning, but then why would the spots be on the rims? I'm still trying to learn this stuff, so someone can correct me here.

  • It just confuses me more. I'm glad that there are folks here that could save me from buying an AT coin if I needed the help before buying it.

I think its Whitman or Wayte Raymond toning.
Or atleast I think thats what ANACS was thinking.

If not NT then its what.Whats that term? Market acceptable.Thats it.
Btw,I heard Dog97 say it first. Was he the one that `coined` the phrase?
    Cool.A pun.
    image
Or who did start the term market acceptable.
    Just wondering.Seems relavent.image
  • Not to sound like a smart @$$, but if a toned coin is in a PCGS, NGC, or ANACS holder, is it a standard to accept it as natural toning?

    yes

or,,,enough eye appeal (AT or not) to be `market acceptable`.

Hey if it looks great and theres a market its acceptable.

    Sad but true huh.

Pretty much. For better or worse thats the way the world of coins sees it.

Shocker- Even raw that coin is blatantly original. I have yet to see that type of toning (successfully) faked.

All the ANACS holder does is confirm it.

  • I'm sure it's original. It's just with the large amount of people ATing coins out there, there are going to be a few people that become artists and will be able to fool anyone. That may even exist now. We know of the ones that bake them hard and make it very obvious, but no one would ever catch on to someone that was so good at their technique that they could make them look original. I bet there are a couple of "artists" out there making a lot of money, and making harder and harder for everyone else.
