This Antietam is begining to temp me. How will I resist?

I don't have an Antietam , but this one is calling out to me.
It is obvious that the coin was cleaned at one point, but is begining to re-tone nicely as golden brown
toning is begining to form at the peripheri on both sides.1937 Antietam NGC-MS65

Its calling out to me. I have not decided yet.

  • Personally, I think it is one of the most beautiful designs in all of US coinage. There aren't too many US coins with a design as bold as the Antietam. The coin has a "handsomely rugged" design, so the cleaning doesn't bother me in the least. If the picture is accurate, the evidence of cleaning isn't so harsh as to attract my attention away from the devices. I'd be tempted, but I'm focused on thalers for the moment image

I understand that it is virtually impossible to grade a coin via a scan, but to call this coin cleaned is wrong. Dipped long ago maybe, but certainly not cleaned.

You're right, dipped is more appropriate.

Decent coin, but you can do better. This issue comes really nice. Wait for a major show and hand pick one sight seen.

It looks like a really nice commem, i don't collect commems so i really don't know what to look for but this one seems just a bit to "shiney" if i were looking to buy one i would wait for one that hasn't been dipped, but again i don't collect these so if this is a low pop coin and you can't find another one like it i would say buy it.

Brian, I don't think I would call this coin dipped. It does look nice. mike

Look at the bright side, at least this one won't cost you $20,000. image
