PhillyJoePhillyJoe Posts: 2,702 ✭✭✭✭
and he wants to buy my coins. Owns American Federal Rare Coin. Nice packet of materials, audiotape, testimonials from people who sold coins to him, and he's going to offer me top dollar!

At least the date is appropriate. Anyone know anything about this guy? Says he will solve all of my coin problems. I thought only you guys knew my coin problems. image

I don't know him, and your coin problems are news to me. What happened?

Joe, I haven't spoken to Nick in over 10 years, but occasionally deal with his company, on a wholesale basis. From what I know of him, I think he's a great guy to deal with.

Hi, Joe. My name is Rick, and I'm a Patternoholic. I can't stop buying them. They smile at me and I want to take them home.
  • Ask David Hall. I think Nick worked for him years ago.

My Dad got the same packet last summer. The tape is very interesting. He takes an absolutlely contrarian view of coins and tells you why most people should not own/invest in them. Sure, a lot of it seems to be self-serving marketing, but there's a lot of truth as well. We kept the tape and threw out everything else.

We don't know anything else about Nick.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Seems like a nice guy.

    Edited for spelling.

You posted your message between the time Mark wrote that and the time he posted it. NumisEd, you know we love you!

Andy, I see that you edited your message. What did you really say before editing?

    NumisEd,

I believe that before you edited your message, it said something to the effect of "Sounds like a scam to me."

Mark, what did the doctor say about not taking your medication every day? Hmm? Hearing voices again?

Last post for NumisEd!!! I am tired of being flamed by everyone for no reason.

I had a chance to read the materials a little closer at lunch. He offers to evaluate your certified coins over the phone; no strings. He prefers PCGS material, but also likes NGC & ICG if you bought it right. I have the one page form you can fax to him to get his opinion. PM me with your fax # (u.s. only, please, the boss is in today) or address and I'll send you a copy of what I have. Might be of interest to you.

Bwahahahaha! Does he regrade the coins over the phone? "okay, so tell me, is there any wear above the ear? Now, how about the fields? Please describe any bag marks or nicks. Hmmmm....PCGS called that MS-64? I would say that it's more like a 63."

Actually, I don't know Mr. Grovich, but he sounds like a nice guy and we should listen to the opinions of those (Andy and Mark) who have dealt with him.

That was exactly what NumisEd wrote before he edited it. And, there's no denying it.

I am tired of being flamed by everyone for no reason.

I didn't think you were being flamed, but you did rush to judgement on someone you don't know. And, those who do know him offered testimonials to the contrary.

    I saw it too.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Alright! Alright! I admit it. I said that it sounded like a scam. I still think that there's something rotten in Denmark with this whole tape and "how to sell your coins to me" package. Doesn't make sense. I edited my message to help keep this a positive thread, but everybody attacking me just gave it a negative feel. Therefore, I am reverting to my original gut reaction that this is something to be cautious of. Nick may be a nice guy....I don't know him, but I am not a big fan of unsolicited "how to sell your coins to me" marketing. Heritage hounded me for a year after getting wind of the fact that I was selling some of my junk coins in order to buy nice, early material.

NumisEd - as was the case the other day, your subsequent post was much more fair and even-handed, even though you still questioned the situation. That's a lot better than using the word "scam" when you don't know the guy or have all the facts. image

Maybe you're only grumpy 50% and not 100% of the time? image

Mark, I am just misunderstood on an often basis. I have some "mood swing" problems and tend to blurt things out without thinking them through, but I never meant to insult anyone. Peace and joy!
