Did you get ANA's latest issue of the Numismatist?...If so how do you like it?

This latest issue is really something I am very impressed. Many stories and articles on every page from beginning to end.
I think this was the best issue to date.
What do you think?

  • Hi! I've been lurking for a while, thought I'd post about this though since I was thinking about the same thing.

This issue of the Numismatist is my first since I am a brand-spankin'-new ANA member. I had not heard very complimentary things about the magazine...it was boring, etc.

I was pleased that I didn't find that to be the case at all! I thought the articles were pretty well-written and all interesting. I thought some of them should have been longer than they were. A few read like the editors decided they needed to chop off the last few paragraphs to get them to fit in their allotted space. I look forward to the next issue.image

I miss dave Bowers' always-readable column, & wonder why they tossed him (he was tossed, he mentioned it in a CW piece), since the column cost them nothing. How could they not want the insights of a guy with his experience and ability?

Its great! The Numismatist used to be a quick 20-30 minute browse. Now, its something that I pick up and put down over the course of several days before I get all of the way through it.

Well, like the great majority, in the past I've found the Numismatist to be lacking. However, along with the new format, it seems to be evolving into a better publication.

As for the current edition, I must confess I have yet to READ it, and that is because I am savoring it; it looks damn good and like it will be an interesting read, and by jove ...

.. it looks like it has some ethnicity in this issue. image

I also thought the latest issue was really good.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Hi Chrysta! image Glad to see you around these parts.

I liked this month's issue quite a bit. Good articles in it. I am growing used to the new format but still missing QDB.

When I received my first issue in this new format, it came the same day as my "Smithsonian" issue. I was pleased with the format, but thought the paper quailty was a little off. Especially when compared side by side with the "Smithsonian". I would prefer the new format combined with the old type of paper used. That would truely be a striking publication.

As far as content goes, well some issues are simply much better than others. Some have articles about areas of numismatics that don't interest me much, where as others are FULL of my interest.

They articles are submitted by the members primarily. Not that the staff don't write some great ones. So if you have an interest, have done some research, and are ready to let the rest of the collecting fraternity know about it, give them a call. I'm sure they'd like to hear from you.
