63T Centering Question

gemintgemint Posts: 6,109 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was browsing through the Superior catalog today and saw that awesome PSA 9 Rose rookie. They stated centering is 55-45 top to bottom. Does anyone know what criteria is used for determining cerntering on the '63 rookie star cards? They are typically centered low by design so how do you determine baseline (i.e., 50-50) centering?

Looking at the photo in the catalog, I can only assume that PSA uses the measurements L to R to come up with the size of the white border (i.e. what it should be at 50/50) and applies that criteria to the bottom border. That's how I would do it, then again, I am not a grader at PSA so if anyone else knows, please inform.

  • Is it my imagination or is that a big fat PD in the upper border near the left corner?

    Taz,

It is. But they do mention it in the description - "Blessed with absolutely eye popping print quality (one small "fish eye" near the top left corner is arguably all that keeps this from a 10), color, gloss and corners, this card stands proudly as the key rookie card of the 1960s and a must-have (!) card for any high powered collection."

Here is a scan of my 63 Rose....50/50, 50/50...still the best one I have seen to date, but of course I had to pay an arm and a leg for it!

That "Pedro Gonzalez rookie card" is absolutely filthy. Congratulations! If you were able to keep 2 limbs and still obtain it, you are a lucky man.
