Found behind the walls...question about error coin

A friend of my moms found a bunch of coins behind the wall, or heater or something. I never got the exact story. There were a few interesting things in it, nothing too valuable. Mainly a bunch of silver Washingotn quarters, maybe 10 rolls or so. There is an 1895-O barber quarter and a 1902-o barber half, both in VG/F. The reverses on both of them are toned blue/red/orange from the padding they were kept on. Kind of unusual on a circulated coin. One thing I have a question about is a 1902-O morgan I grade MS-62 that is toned kind of like the barbers but not as much. The 2 in the date looks to be repunched or something. On the holder it said "clogged 2". The best I can describe it is you have the bottom line on the 2 that goes horizontal. Directly over this there is another horizontal line. Is this worth anything? I'm not sure how old most of this is because some coins were in prescription bottles dated in the 40's but there is also 1986 liberty $. Thanks for any info you have on the morgan.

That sounds pretty neat! It sounds like it's a VAM13 which is a doubled date. You should also be able to see doubling in the crossbar of the 1.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • The one is normal as far as I can tell. Think people will go all nuts over the toning on those barbers? First thing I thought of when I saw them was the prices I saw at the long beach sale for anything with a little color.

I would love to hear the exact story about the find if you ever get it. Stories like that are great. Can you post a pic or two of the bottles that the coins were in?

  • Cool story! If I start punching holes in the walls though , I am going to blame you. image
  • I have the collection now. The lady wants me to sell it for her. I'm still going through it but I think it is worth about $1,000. I guess they just started finding coins all over the house after the moved in, behind heaters, in the attic...There was a gerber jar, a guava pineapple jam jar, and a Hills Bros Coffee can. Most of it is jeffersons not really worth anything, and there are a bunch of pre 64 quarters. Most will probably be sold for the silver content. There are a few silver dollars, common dates and nothing special unless the 1902-o turns out to be rare. Anyone know anything more about this? Somehow I have a feeling it is pretty common. There are some random Canadian coins dating back to 1910 but nothing in very good condition. There are a few barber quarters and half dollars and a few other misc items. The most interesting to me are the ones that toned in their holders. I'll post pictures when I get home tomorrow if anyone wants to see them.
