As I was going through rolls for nickels I came across this:

Any thoughts?

It's not FS5c-034, the mint mark position is too far west.

My guess would be a worn die.
  • There seem to be MANY "undocumented" RPMs and such for the Jefferson series. I think you have one of them.

I couldn't tell anything for certain from the picture, Marty, just that it wasn't the same as the pic from the CPG. Like it says in the comments, 'There are some 10 different D/S varieties for 1955". I'm sure that there are many more RPMs.

It looks like you are using a QX3 scope to take the pictures. Have you tried just using the bottom light? I found it helped cut down on the shadow and glare, although some detail could be lost too. I also used flashlight with a piece of paper over it (for diffusion) to help highlight just the area that I wanted to look at.

I agree with Spinynorman, it isn't the OMM #1 pictured in Cherrypickers. The mintmark is too far west and the die wear flowlines are different. There are other features of the mintmark itself that don't match up either. You may have one of the other 9 D/S varieties or it may be a D/D instead.
