Hey Merc folks...hidden Sets?

This issue may have been asked about, hashed over, torn apart and spit out. If it has been, I am sorry for bringing it up again, but I have a question.

How do you fellow Merc collectors feel about hidden sets (sets where you can't see the coins)?

About the same way as sets without photos.

Beth, I think they should NOT be hidden. I for one like to look at all the sets and see what other collectors have in their sets. For instance Grades, FB or Not. If pictures are available, toning or white, and strikes.

I never "Look" at Sets/Coins that do not have photos. Hidden Sets/Coins are Damn hard to see also. My eyes are failing I guess. image

To Each thier Own. No Problem here with what a person wants to do. Its just hard to appreciate them though. image

Saw this on a Web Site but it was Hidden and I could not appreciate the Dime very much. You know I'm just Kidding You.

They must have something to hide.image

Anyone can build a set of plastic (well, if they have the cash). I wish everyone had a digital camera and placed pictures of their coins in their sets. Now, I, too, am guilty of not putting photos in my modern and my state quarter sets. But, those really are plastic if you think about it.

I can understand the argument if you are the top one or two sets to hide; however, what is the point of listing a set simply to hide it. It must be hidden because they have something to hide.

Beth, I don't know if I explained it right, but hopefully you get my drift.

I do not think Most have anything to hide. I am sure some other reason enters into Beth's question here. Her reason is justified IMO and I have No problem with the Decision that probably will be made. I for one am glad she came back into the Registries. I just wish there was some way to put her mind to ease about the issue she has with leaving the Set open for public view.

I like the pic of the coin in your post above. How much is the seller asking for it? It will hit in very well with my set. image

Beth that was a 28P in 65FB. Man I could not get a good look at it though to see if the price was in Line. Crap the Old Money Worry problem again. I guess just because it was stated as a 65 I might as well buy it. The price was about $300, I might as well pull the Trigger. image

    okay, Ken and Beth,

I don't know the issue, but many sets are listed with titles that are obscure, so a set could be listed with a name that doesn't mean anything to anyone. And, make sure the set is listed, not to include the email address. Photos or not a set could still be listed and without anyone knowing whom the set belongs.

  • You have a good point, Tony. I am trying a little experiment right now to see how comfortable I feel with this. I may and may not hide my coins at a later date, it depends on how my experiment works out.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no fears or problems relating to the Merc folks (or any other collector on these boards for that matter), I am just concerned about the safety and security of my family.

    Beth,

Whatever your decision it is up to you! I use to use my full name on my sets, and have gone to using my initials. My last name is no longer listed in my user profile because of comments I have seen on these boards. (I think it was Ken who made the point.)

Safety and security for your family has to top the list!

The information I have in my profile use to be full name, city and state, so now I am down to about 1/3 the population of Wisconsin. image
