Clarification on my thoughts about Objective Rational grading, decimal grades and conscensus grading

I think that the biggest improvement to grading would be the implementation of objective rational grading and the elimination of conscensus
grading.

I think objective rational grading to one decimal place is ideal but even if you did it with whole numbers it would still be a dramatic
improvement over conscensus grading done as I understand it to be done today.

I agree whole heartedly. Anything to improve consistency, and the current lack thereof, would be beneficial to all of us.

imageObjective and rational is an oxymoron. Objective requires seemingly different views. Rational is consise and to the point. Depending on the use as an adjective{objective} and a noun{rational} would equal consensus grading!

The objective component requires graders to grade alone and without influence from other graders and bosses who come in and hand
them a box of coins that he's picked out as potential crossovers.
  • Grading will be objective only when all the potential coins are known by those awarding the grade, so that a scale of relativity can be agreed upon. 1804 dollars and 1913 nickels can probably be graded objectively. 1793 chain cents and 1796 half cents can not, as the existence of some has never been disclosed.

I see your point. What you are saying is that if you take all the Chain cents and mentally look at them, you can then begin to seperate them into catagories.

Chain cents shouldn't be graded like Franklins because they're different. And you can't know precisely how different they are if you don't know them.

You can't "know them" if you have not seen them.

Ok, am i right? Is that your point, Redhott?

I can follow the thought behind this idea, but will they still have to pass a review board! If not, I would like the graders initials on the insert.
