Longacre's hand engraved 1849 G$1 J-115/116

Doing a little research on these and was wondering if anyone has one, certified or not, or knows where any are that I might get a scan from.

I had the chance to examine a J-115 during the auction lot viewing at last November's B&M auction at Baltimore. It was really something to hold a coin hand-engraved by Longacre, not to mention it was ex-Boyd, Judd, Kosoff and board member MrEureka (Andy Lustig), I believe. It was illustrated actual size in the color plates and enlarged (black and white) in the catalog.

    Sold for $10,350.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Richbeat thanks for the link, but it says permission to enter denied. Guess you have to be a member. You might want to mention, so members don't waste their time.

The image isn't opening for me right now, but a J-116 is in the Goldberg auction.

Oops! I could've sworn the link worked when I linked it. Since my post is from March 10, I would suspect that activity on the website (update, etc.) has rendered my link useless. image

Just tried my link and I'm getting the Yahoo! thing also, which is a little weird. Anywho, it was the same pic as the one shylock posted. Can't think of anything causing it other than what I mentioned above. I even emailed Andy to ask permission to link to his photos for purposes of illustrating what was being discussed (in case I was stepping on any toes or doing something I shouldn't be doing). He told me no problem. He posts here so maybe he has the answer. image
