Another cool toned Morgan

Ever since I bought my new camera Monday, I have had a blast taking shots of my Morgans that just would not come out with my old camera. Here is another one. Absolutely nothing has been done to the photos outside of cropping and sizing. As with the Tidy House Morgan last night, this resides in my collection and is not for sale. Early NGC MS63.

Thanks stman. I have always liked the vibrant polychromatics and also the crescents, though I have been know to buy a few rainbows.

I'm getting better Neil. Some of these are really challenging, because the settings for a white coin aren't the same.

I know what you mean. I think what would help would be to have a black/gray/white strip nearby. That way you have a marker to use to calibrate the color. Thing is, I can't find one with pure color. image And NGC slabs photograph very differently from PCGS ones.

Gorgeous coin. The reverse is definately better than a 63. Closer to 65, I'd say!

I'd say it would easily grade 64 today. It is in the early NGC holder without the barcode.

Neil- yes, different slabs even for similar coins require a lot of fiddling.

As far as my setup, the camera is a Nikon CP4300, and I have it mounted on a copystand with lights. Here is a picture of the setup, courtesy of my semi-retired Toshiba camera. Setup

Thanks Frank, this is one of my favorites. It is so nice to have a camera that captures the colors correctly. I have a lot more in my stash that I will be posting here in the next few days.

Hey looks like you got some steel wool next to the setup. And what's in that ziplock bag?image

LOL! image Actually, those are pieces of black foam that I use to angle the coins on the baseboard. On these toned coins, you have to get them at just the right angle to show the color as far as the camera's CCD is concerned. I keep them in a ziplock because they attract dust like honey attracts bears... oops, sorry Bear! image

I figured that.image I have a hard enough time tilting the coin right with a scanner. With all the time on this board and a scanner.... I don't even want to think of getting into a camera. But I can appreciate what it must take to do what you guys do. I'm sure I could do it, but I just can't take all the time and patience it takes.

You guys will just have to put up with my scans and try to picture what it really looks like.

It took me about 2 years but I finally figured out how to get scans that look almost just like my coins. Aint no way I go through that all again with a camera.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Outstanding image; looks 3D. And that little "sunburst" in and around the 4R stars is "purdy" too.

Thanks Gilbert. The "sunburst" effect is what hooked me on the coin, to the point of having to have it at any cost. You know, that coin you buy that you pray the better half doesn't find out about. I paid a tremendous premium for it, but I think it was worth it.
