Update from Boston Bay State show

The Boston Bay State show usually has about 125 dealers/ tables, but I would have to say it seemed like half the tables were empty this morning. I don't know if it had anything to do with the weather or not. As I was going from table to table, not one, I say again, not one dealer said hello or asked if he could show me anything. I had to fight my way over rude onlookers with their briefcases layed out all over the display cases talking about unrelated topics. There was an unusually large amount of Ancient dealers this time. Always fascinated me, but too much research involved, so I just admire from a distance. Only a few dealers in world coins. There was alot of generic gold as usual, but one dealer had about 30 - 40 Charlotte and Dalonega quater eagles in high grades. Very, very nice, but didn't even want to ask for the prices. I was specifically looking for Early Bust Quarters and there was literally none to be had. Most dealers had the usual stuff (Morgans/ Generic gold, and a scattering of type coins). There were no Barbers, no Liberty Seated, no Indians, no Buffalos, no anything that really stood out. JJ Teaparty had a good selection of nice material though. You had to ask if they had anything else than what was in the display cases. Many dealers didn't even have time to catalog since Long Beach. It truly is getting harder and harder to find nice material. If you see something that you need or strikes your eye, you need to jump on it because someone else certainly will. I did cherry pick a superb 1837 Bust Quarter in an ANACS XF-40 holder that was a B-1 Rarity-5 for regular XF money. Thats all for now.

Thanks for the report. These show updates are my favorite part of the forum.
Do you remember the name of the dealer with the "C" and "D" quarter eagles?

I found one dealer (Dennis King) from Wisconsin that had some toned Morgans but, not anything special. He had called me before he came to say he thought he had a few coins from my want list. He didn't. I did however trade I really nice 81-o dmpl for three of his toned Morgan. Even up swap, I got a 89 inPCGS64, 1878-7 rev78 in PCGS64 and a 1902-o PCGS64. All with real nice color, but not Monster. They all have rainbow toning with nice luster but ,stop short of being knockout type coins.

The location, parking and traffic are awful. If you don't know the city, it's kind of tough to get there. This keeps most "average" collectors away from the show.
There's a biannual show in Mansfield Ma. that does well, and there will be a new show in Bedford/Manchester N.H. this fall, that should become a decent show. The Manchester airport is 5 minutes away.

(the holder says 6) which is an r-6. It has an old bend and is graded G-6.
