Certification for Retailers of Coins

In addition the courses taught about Coin Doctoring techniques, the ANA & PNG could get involved in a Certification of Coin Retailers that have taken a certain number of hours of training on coin doctoring. I would make the certification process renewable by taking semi-annual courses on coin doctoring. Then the collectors could feel comfortable that the person selling the coin is competant on coin doctoring recognition.
I would think these retailers would be able to get a premium for their expertise.
This should benefit both sellers and collectors.

  • NOW you're talking!!!

This type of approach will be the most effective. Executing doctors in front of the world, as sexy as it sounds, just isn't going to happen. The "teeth" aren't there to allow that dog to hunt. However, EDUCATING everyone, beginning with the dealers, holds the most promise.

    Great suggestion JB!

  • A main concern I would have about pursuing a "Coin Doctor" is this.
    If they win the lawsuit.
    Now what happens?
Is this sanctioning the "Coin Doctor" techniques?

I would think it would be hard to convict a "Coin Doctor" with a jury.
