Maybe we should wait and see.. PCGS grading

I was wondering. With all the hoopla about PCGS tightening up dramatically, who and how many, besides long beach participants, have seen these recent slabs? Is there any possible way for collectors be able to tell the differance?
I've seen a lot of PCGS coins that I felt were graded too loose. So I think a little tightening is a good thing. I have not seen any of these "undergraded" coins yet. I'm actually thinking about sending a couple of my best raw pieces in for a litmus test.

I think it's a bad time to send them in due to the change-over in personnel grading pre-65 coins. But if you want to test the water, go ahead.

I don't understand your point. Are you suggesting that they may be inferior grader? I hadnt heard of new personnel, but I would think/hope, that the pre - 65 graders are the "better" ones due to the amount of material.

I just sent the biggest batch ever for me at the Long Beach show: 35 Indian Cents. Economy service, so it will be a few months before I get them back.

Let's just say that a couple of these changes involve graders who are well known for very tight grading. Submit at your own discresion, results may vary.

I sent in 3 submissions. Two were received yesterday the third should arrive by monday. One was a two coin submission of a 1885 morgan that is toned and an 1893 columbian half which is also toned. Both raw. The second submission is four coins for the world category.3 Star Trek Liberian $1 image and a toned 1913 Lera. The third submission is for crossovers.Nine NGC coins at same grade or better.1 buff,4 wheat lincolns, and 4 mercury dime.Lets see if I'm getting any better at this.Whis me luck.I'll let you know the results if you want.

This should be a good test I think.Raw,toned, foreign, and crossover.

I read in other posts that personnel were shifted from pre-65 to post-65 grading. Assuming that they still have the same number of pre-65 graders, it implies to me that there has been a shift in personnel. This may be result in tighter grading for the moment.

I think it's safe to say that this is precisely what many of us are doing...waiting. And, waiting and waiting and waiting...

Well, my last one was 48 days. I've got one in now that's at day 43, another at a couple weeks and another that hit two days ago. I miss last fall when they were whipping them out in three weeks.image

But, considering there are guys around here that have been waiting over two months for results, I'm not to the whining stage yet.

And waiting, and waiting... I agree, I really hopes the backlog starts to clear. So I can post some of my submissions (that way Eddie will have something to pick on me about!)
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
