Where should I send my coins???

My father gave me his coin collection last week but I never had a coin graded just sportscards. But now I have alot of nice coins that I think might be worth more money if I got them graded So where should I start I don't know anything about getting coins graded. Is this the best place to send my coins to get graded and how much does it cost for a coin to get graded? Any info would be nice because I just know about grading sportscards not grading coins, just selling them. Thanks

Dave

  • I would post a list and pictures of the coins he has first.

Often times coins that you think are worth sending in are not, and coins you don't think are worth sending in are.

Buy a book - photograde or ANA grading standards and redbook

Professional grading costs lots of money, and should not be considered for coins worth less than ? $50? $100?

Visit a local dealer to see differences between uncirculated/almost uncirculated/XF/F/VG/G
    then decide

Education is the first thing. Photograde and the ANA book are very good starters. Also PCGS's book on Grading and Counterfeit detection is an excellent book on learning the basics of grading. I'd start there before sending coins to be certified. At a minimum of $10 a pop for PCGS (>1964, otherwise $15) and $11 for NGC, it can get pricey very fast.

regarding your original question - "Where should I send my coins?"

Feel free to send them to me
