Mint items ending soon... What do you think?

The mint will stop selling the West Point commems this month and will also stop selling the 2002 50 States proof sets this month.

Isn't this earlier than usual on the proof sets? They'll be selling the 2003 50 States proof sets later this month. It seems like it was mid-year last year when they changed over...

More demand? Less product? Different marketing techniques?

Do you know when the 2003 Mint Sets will go on sale? Whenever I go to the upcoming products link, it's useless.

They're probably holding out for five years down the line when they'll magically reappear for sale once again.

  • Relayer,

Thanks. You beat me to it. I'm looking forward to the silvers. They're my favorites.

You can probably still find them at the Mint Gift Stores or at the kiosk in DC.

The US Mint hasn't annouced a date yet. But as with previous years, these seem to become available in mid-May.

The West Point commems are a major bust. A large quantity was purchased early on with expectations of a sellout. That didn't happen. Expect a final mintage of 400,000 which means there are way too many of them for the little demand.

gmarguli- Don't I know it. I've been lugging my 100 of these boat anchors around for longer than I care to think about. One of the more stupid purchases I've managed to make over the past coupld of years.

I don't have my copy in front of me, but in the Coin World I got yesterday they mentioned that the legislation about the nickel could mandate a new reverse sometime this year, and if it is enacted the Mint intends to issue both nickels in the mint/proof sets.

    That could cause a delay.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
