Never seen something like this before....

Hey guys,

I was doing my daily search through eBay and combing through all the junk out there. THERE IS SO MUCH! ESPECIALLY, in the "Collections, Lots" category. Anyways, today was a lucky day, I found some very worthy lots. I'm fresh out of cash, so I can't bid on this one, but take a look at this lot. The link is here.

In my eye, a lot of that looks cleaned... are most big lots like that one?

you guys need to check out the quote I posted, the same as it is in his B,S, & T forum post. You can't bid on this one huh? Maybe because you are the seller.

Geez, Kevin, that was really, really lame.

But keep your chin up, you may have a good future writing spam emails!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I don't know if this guy is the one running the auction, however, I like this quote from the auction-

<< <i>We have received several large offers for the set, but we decided to put it on Ebay instead. Feel free to inquire about purchasing this collection now. >>

So, they won't sell the set outright for a "large" offer but will ask you to inquire about purchasing it now. Seems odd to me that you would turn down large offers to list it on ebay and then solicit offers, not bids, in the auction for the sale of the item thereby defeating the auction.

He also posted a message over on a Yahoo! Groups that I am a moderator of. His post claims that this auction is for a "collection of his that he has been collecting for 11 years..." But when you go to it, it states that it was just recently bought from a local collector. I asked him about the differences, and am waiting for a reply.

Here is his email address: kglowalla@sbcglobal.net in case someone wants to ask him some nice questions. image

Kevin......Welcome to the boards........Are you always this amusing???

  • LOL! I guess I am always this amusing.... Hey just trying to make some cash here! Don't be mad you guys, I'm just a greedy bast*rd and I want as much money as possible. Anyways, here's my question: I realize that this set isn't perfect. I know its not worth thousands of dollars (duh...), but why is no one bidding lately? I realize there are 15 bids, but it is only at $350. My optimistic estimate has somewhere in the low 700's maybe 600's. Well, now its only at 350! Another interesting thing, since I posted on this board, I have gotten over 300 hits in 3 hours. For the past several days, I've been getting 70 hits a day. Well, out of those 300 people, why hasn't one, just ONE, bid on it. Don't tell me "Your set is junk!" I know it isnt Eliasberg-quality, but I do know it is worth more than it is going for.

Sorry about this whole advertising sham....

Welcome Kevin. Your missing all the good coins, No early halves or dollars! A bit shy of an $850.00 value by about two thirds. Too bad your out of cash, man it will be a cold day in hell before you ever see such a nice set pass on Ebay again! image

    Tyler

Kevin much internet activity takes place at the last five minutes or less of auction. Secondly, none of the coins have much value minus the five early coppers worth about $200.00, the dimes maybe $70.00, the halves $20.00 on a good day and the silver dollars $30.00 or so. Of course just my opinion.

Your getting so many hits on your auction right now because we are all looking at it and shaking our collective heads at the low-end material you are trying to say is worth money. That set has nothing but fairly common coins in it that are not worth anything close to what you hope they are worth. Your best bet is for someone to not know the market and buy the coins based on your hyperbole. Nothing personal, just telling the truth. Next time, don't spam these Boards or we'll really come after you.

Or we'll just report you to eBay for offering to sell outside of eBay OR report you for passing on PayPal fees to the buyer.

I saw that it was in a Littleton Coin book and was loading very slow- that was enough for me.

In my opinion Littleton sells overgraded/overpriced garbage, and assumed many of the coins were bought from there.

The middle days of auctions always get very little attention. I wouldn't worry about it. The first and LAST days see the most hits. Many people search using the search feature that pulls up auctions that are about to end.

You'll see much more activity in the last few hours and then minutes if your item is worthy of it and the end time isn't 3:00 in the morning.

    Good luck with it.

I fear our buddy Kev may have underestimated the knowledge of the members of this board, which is interesting becuase it would only take a short read through some of the posts here to see the level of discussion going on (unless its a flame war post image )

That takes some real brass ones to post a blatant lie, then admit you lied when you're called on it, pass it off as just trying to do some "honest" business, and then go on to pretend your are interested in why your low-end cleaned crap is not selling for 3-4x whats its worth.

    What a knob.image
  • As greedy as ol Kev is, I suppose I am as cheap...best case scenario puts the entire collection at a net worth of only about $250 - $300, and that's not taking into count the possible whiz on the 1893 half, the scrub job on the half cent and large cent, as well as additional colors that are off a bit on some of the other coppers...At $350, you better think you're ahead on the game.

It's because your description is too boring. You need to add something about these being Grandpa's coins that he picked up in cities and countries around the world while working as a traveling salesman. Oh, and maybe pop them in the oven at 350 degrees for an hour or so, than add new pictures.

Hmmm...over 300 hits in the last couple hours and no new bidders? Could it possibly be that all the hits were from bored board members looking for a little comic relief?

    Cheers,

    Bob

300 hits is small potatoes. take a picture with a set of boobs on top of the album - you'll get 2,000 hits per day, even after the auction is closed!
