  • Perhaps Russ, the self-proclaimed resident expert on photgraphy and lighting would grace us with his opinion? I believe these were his coins at one time, though I could be wrong. If so, I'd be interested in his opinion of the colors shown in the photos, versus the color the coins actually have. Is it realistic? Are they more vivid in person? Less vivid? I'm very curious!

I'll say this....Ansel would have been mighty proud....except for the use of colors thing image

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Whats up with this attitudeimage
  • Oh, well thanks for clarifying it Russ.

Still, I'm VERY interested in your opinion.

Natural? AT? Enhanced photos? What do you think?

I notice Russ is bidding on some of them!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I am planning on sniping some of these, if they don't get out of hand. They are pretty.

    They are my auctions.

Lighting is identical for each, as well as camera angle. Russ never owned any of them - they came from MadMarty.

    edit:
To answer the specifics... they're taken with precisely the same light set-up as my JFK proof shots,
I use a slight angle to capture the toning, as well as one of the three lights is incandescent.

They are directly out of proof sets - hence not AT
The photographs are not enhanced in any way - just cropped and slapped on a black background for presentation.
  • And the colors Dan...are they this vivid when you see them in person?

Certainly the answer to that question lies in what light source they are viewed under, but yes - they are just as you see them.

Marty? Care to pipe in here with your observations?
  • Cool. They are beautiful, and I just wanted to clear that up before I bid.

    Thanks!

I guess the only caveat I'd make is that depending upon the angle you view them and the light you use, you can make them look dull and lifeless.

I'd be insane not to present them as professionally as my limited means and experience allows - but one thing I won't do is artificially enhance. That would be unethical. (not that I percieved any suggestion of that - or any accusation - just explaining.)

The questions are legitimate. Hopefully the answers satisfy.

I don't claim to be any sort of grading expert either. I took my best guess again based upon limited knowledge, but I'm learning. It's entirely possible I've missed my grades by one or even two in either direction - or could be spot-on. I truly am not certain.

I can grade Kennedy's passably - but I'm still new, and learning when it comes to the other series.

  • Look guys...I did as asked. "Comment Please"......Everyone on this board knows I don't know how to grade, and that I am a new collector. To tell the truth, I'm feeling a little set up here. If I knew anyone here was running that auction or bidding on it, I would not have made that (now, not so funny) remark. I am sure they are wonderful coins. I did not mean to insult. I was giving my opinion which doesn't carry any weight here anyway.

    My bad

Don't worry about it...you stated your opinion and that is what I asked for. What difference does it make if someone from the boards was doing the auction or not. I posted the question and link for that reason, they looked nice but were suspect to me also. Relax

I'm not offended Bullon. Hopefully no one feels "trodden upon." There are unquestionably "AT" coins out there, and a person has every right to wonder. My source for these, is in my opinion - above reproach. No worries.

Just for giggles, I re-shot coin #3 for you all. Note on the left - with an almost direct angle, the coin looks like crap, and it's obviously overexposed. On the right, at a slight angle - compare the "trueness" of skin tone to the color of the coin.
Doesn't get much more real than that. image A lot is to be said for presentation.
