Hairlines/Slide Marks on coins.

Good Evening Once more.

Not being critical here but it does state in the Official PCGS Grading Book that Minor Hairlines are acceptable for the MS65 grade. For the last 4+ years I have viewed many PCGS 65 and 64 graded Mercury Dimes and have never seen any Hairlines on a 65 coin and very few on 64 coins. If the Grading Book is out of date on this subject I believe telling the collectors this is in order.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks Much.

Ken

I believe hairlines are specifically mentioned in our grading book with respect to proofs, not MS coins. For MS coins the issue is marks and abrasions. I see very minor hairlines on almost all PCGS PR65 coins. I notice more hairlines on PCGS PR64s. i think the grading book is right on the money and I believe we try to grade to those standards.
