My grading submission dilemma

I finally got the coin I had on layaway -- yeah! So now I'm getting ready to submit four coins for my free grading. Three of these are obvious choices to me, but I'm having a really tough time figuring out what the fourth coin I submit should be. The problem is most of my other coins are $300 or less, so why use a free submission on them when I can send them in for economy service? Here are some of my choices:

1) A seated liberty dollar that's worth $300-325 depending on which guide you use. I was lumping this with the $300 or less group, but maybe it's worth sending in as a free submission
2) An ANACS 1955 double die penny. But I don't think you can do crossovers with the free submissions (at least, there's no line on the form for it)
3) A 1911 XF quarter eagle. Only worth $175, but you can't do gold coins with the economy service so it would have to go regular service anyway. The problem here is I don't know if it's really worth getting this coin slabbed at all considering the coin's value.
4) Just wait a few months and see if I pick up another raw coin that would be a more obvious choice to submit.

I'm not sure which way I'm leaning, so I thought I'd ask the board for their opinion...

    Crack the 55dd
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

The CrossOver will work on the free submission, but I like the answer directly above my post better.

  • Why do you think it's better to crack it out of the ANACS slab than to submit it as a crossover?

Stick the crossover on one submission form. Stick the other 3 coins on another form. Ship them to PCGS with the free grading form and indicate that you want to use the free gradings for these other two invoices.

    I'd assume it would work.

Ask them to ship them all back together.

    Crack the 55.

Why not leave the 55dd in the ANACS holder?
  • I guess that's part of my dilemma -- does it really matter if it's in an ANACS holder? I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon. One thing I will say, I like the look of the PCGS holder more than the ANACS holder, but I don't know that it's worth it to me to use one of my submissions to cross it over (e.g. would that submission be better spent on another coin)?
  • BTW, for those who are interested, sounds like I wouldn't be able to send in the 1955 double die as a crossover as my other three coins would be raw. Link
