Think what you wish, collect nice coins [whatever holder they be in], be happy. Life's too short to worry about other people's agendas.

  • Well spoken................
Here are a few points that I have come up with. You can take them or leave them.
    1. We are still in an economic depression.
    2. Coin prices, for whatever reason, despite the economic times, are rising for the most part.
    3. Most of the people, with some exceptions, on this board, are both collectors and sellers.
    4. Taking into account the first 3 items that I have listed, it behoves these people to be able to buy low, crackout/resubmit for higher grades/more money. It is only human nature. My thoughts..............Ken

Just my opinion on the above.

    3. Most of the people, with some exceptions, on this board, are investors and not hobbiests

  • agfox, that could be another good way to state it. Thanks.....Ken

Maybe that applies to the most vocal forum members, but I happen to know there are quite a few true collectors, and they are astute, in that they aren't simply wasting their money. Does that make them an investor? I think not -- they just happen to collect things of value.

IMHO much of the selling seen here is by true collectors either upgrading a collection, selling excess that doesn't "fit" anymore, submissions which came in low or "made" coins to help alleviate the price of buying some really top notch stuff. the term investor alludes to one with no interest in the hobby save how much they can drain from it to enrich themselves. my take is that those types are in the minority.

i have personally moved into the relm of selling for the first time in over 35 years of collecting. i actually have much of what i began with as a 9 year old in 1964, most not worth more than the value of sentimentality. what i've sold has purchased some nice coins and started a coin library that was much needed. thanks to everyone for the suggested references.
