PSA 10 1969 Topps Leaders #1 card 1/1 on ebay

Coming due on ebay! Seller makes a great point; there are very, very few #1 cards in vintage sets to ever achieve the grade of 10. This one can be had as a BIN for $900+. Seems like an outright bargain considering the recent action on the Yaz 9 and the uniqueness of a PSA 10 #1 card example. I think its a superb chance to own a real gem.
We all know what happened to all those #1 cards.
What are the boards thoughts on this? Anybody have interest?

This is a relist. He auctioned it earlier with a minimum bid of $1000+ and got no takers. I think the price is a bit steep but then again, I've never been one to chase 10s.

I'm somewhat familiar with this card. Kris Keppler had this card a while ago and advertised it for $800. If the card was dead centered and defect-free, I probably would have paid the $800 for it. Besides the centering, there are stray print marks near Yaz's cap. I still have a 500K+ scan from Keppler where the print marks are more obvious. If anyone wishes to see it, please e-mail me and I'll send this scan to you.

  • It's up again on a relist. Starting bid of $399.99 has already gotten one bidder. Great for the 1969 collector, but nobody else.

    Why oh why oh why!!!!

If I may tangent for just a moment........................

WHY is it that folks seldom use a black background when scanning their beautiful white-bordered cards? In this case, I'm sure the corners are razor, but why not highlight it with a black background (and in THIS case a better scan?).

In summary, poor representation for the amount of money and rarity of the card.

  • Bug - Good point. If you scan with the lid up you will get a nice black backround which is great for PSA cards. SGC with the black borders or 1971 Topps Baseball generally look better if you leave the lid down; hence white backround. A tip that works good for me.

Dan can you send me a copy of that scan to aja4rayb@msn.com
    Thanks.

Agree Ray. I always lift the lid (no not that lid!) when I scan white bordered cards. Lid down for black bordered cards. Now if I could only get those green spots out of the 4th series '69 scans! image

I use a piece of black construction paper that is slightly smaller than the PSA holder and lay it on top (back) of the card holder when scanning. I agree -- not using a black backgound can make even razor-sharp corners look NM or EX/MT in quality.
  • THERE ARE AT LEAST 32 PSA9' s AND THE ONE PSA10. IF YOU UNSLAB THE 9's AND THE ONE 10, MIX IT UP, AND FEW COULD FIND THE 10. WITH SO MANY PSA8'S AND PSA9's OF THIS CARD, YOU WOULD BE BUYING THE HOLDER, NOT THE CARD. ONLY MY HUMBLE OPINION--THANKS RON

I actually went and bought a pack of different colored bright paper and I keep one sheet of each color by my scanner. Certain cards look better with different backgrounds. Mostly newer cards are the only ones that vary though because most vintage have white borders and generally look best with a black background. Light blue looks really great with a tan-orange-yellow type of border and orange seems to look good on dark colored borders.

There was an auction for a PSA 9 '71 Yaz on Ebay last week that had a puke green background. Now that was dumb. A good looking card like that, and it made you want to look away when you saw it! Now why do that?

    Wab,

At this time I am experimenting with what you have said about different colored backgrounds. I'm determined to have nice scans even if the cards are low-dollar. No bone-head scans for me!

  • The toughest and highest quality Yaz card is the PSA 9 #130 card. Bob Cacamese's card is superiorly centered for the issue. The #1 card is a challenge in regards to centering and it is probable that some PSA 9's may have better eye appeal. The #1 card is a double printed first series issue.
