Opinion on PSA 8 Seaver Rookie

Seaver Rookie

What is everyone's opinion on this Seaver rookie card? Obvious old holder & most 8's have been going for $650. In my opinion it still looks pretty nice. Registry set won't know the difference either! image

from the scan, the corners look real sharp, but i personally hate diamond cuts on high-grade cards. i'd rather have an 8 with 65-35 centering than one that slopes from 45-55 at one end to 55-45 on the other.

  • Splendid ,

The real question is do you like the card well enough to Pay $550+ ?

If the answer is yes bid....

  • It's got a little tilt to it and is slightly off to the left. The corners look sharp and so does the color. It's also a card that was graded a while ago which may keep down the price. It looks like a decent card that may be had at a bargain.

Looking for well centered 1958 topps baseball psa 8 and up. Also dying for a 70 Aaron All Star in PSA 9.

If cards are resubmitted in these "older" style holders and PSA determines that the card (using this one as an example) should now be a lesser grade, perhaps a psa 7. What does PSA do?

I know they have a buy back policy. However, many people have stated that the older holders sell at a slight discount. Does PSA have a policy on this very thing, about reholdering cards with this "older" label.

I have a few cards that I would like to upgrade - the serial number as well as the holder (PSA label). The most recent PSA serial numbered slabs do seem to sell for more. Cracking out the card and resubmitting raw is too risky.

Anyone have any experience or strategy on upgrading serial numbers?
  • Marcus, just as important. When PSA puts the card in a new holder, do they increase the population by one or keep it the same? It should stay the same. Would love to get this & put it in a new holder. Color is brilliant.

No, they don't increase the pop count on a card when it's reholdered. Also, even though a nice newer tag would look better, it won't hide the fact that it's an old grade, because the cert # will be the same, and that's what the collectors look at to determine how long it's been around, not the font (though that's a dead giveaway).
