Why all eBay sellers should block "ah-collectibles" RIGHT NOW

flaminioflaminio Posts: 5,664 ✭✭✭
Chris S reported this over on RCC:

Auction #1: 1907 $20 PCGS 63

Auction #2: 1907 $20 ACG 65

Same coin, right? Check the contact marks.

Here's the page where you can block bidders.

Ah...very interesting. Hey lets start a grading company. Apparently it's not that hard, and you get to sue people!

At least it didn't sell the second time. Maybe bidders are wising up.

Isn't this just another twist on the "crack out" game. One way to get around the "tight armor" problem. image

i'm not a gold expert but MS63 sounds a bit rough for that one - looks pretty clean to me, no major marks.

it isn't possible that the pcgs grade was wrong?

Is it possible ACG was right? image (Neil asks sarcastically)

No, Karl, that is impossible. image

Judging by the pictures these could BOTH qualify for MS65. Saint's have different types of luster: The 63 has "brilliant" and the 65 has "satin". This assumes there isn't anything hidden by virtue of the fact it is a PICTURE, which are not accurate enough to grade with in many cases.

who are the computer experts with cut and paste?

I am not convinced they are the same coin - a side by side may convince me.

That pcgs ms63 looks better than any pic of the 1933!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah it's the same coin. Kinda ticky for a 65 too.
Poor old AH, I guess his submissions are way down and he has to buy his coins from mainstream dealers now. I noticed he deals with all the major member dealers but I doubt if any will ban him because his $$ is still green.

That is the nicest 63 I have seen. Seems that even 65's are baggy in Gold!

imageThey are not the same coin. With my Windows XP system I can enlarge the photos. The PCGS has a few marks above the extended arm and more finer contact marks and scrathes in the field.
Copy the photos and enlarge if you can.
Also, there are minor differences on the reverse. Blow it up and check it out!

Another point is minor ticks in the rays on the obverse. The two coins don't match up/PCGS has a couple of ticks on the left rays near the top.
The ACG is clear almost on both sides.

It's the same coin. Look at the reverse. Identical marks by the eagle's beak, particularly the "S" shaped one!
You can supersize the ACG images.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

You mean that $7.5M coin with the broken leg and banged up knee?image I don't believe PCGS can be accused of "tight" grading with that coin!

Same coin, for sure. I can't believe Alan only bumped that coin up by 2 points. ACG must be getting conservative right along with PCGS and NGC.image

The funny thing is that "AH Corruptibles" will lose money on that coin. They paid $825, but I think that the supply of idiots buying ACG slabs is all but gone. I remember seeing a sea of ACG crap at shows, but now I only see a few dealers pushing that garbage. They are usually the ones that look malnourished, since they are hurting financially due to a lack of sales.

They're the same coin. One picture is harshly lit and shows a lot of marks and the other is on a blue background which softens & hides lots of marks.
Just look at the rim straight in front of the eagle-there's 2 ticks on the rim, one higher & one lower in both pictures. Same 2 field ticks under Liberty's arm by the branch.
The MS63 auction ended on Feb 6, AH received the coin soon afterward, reholdered it and relisted it on Feb 23.
Notice that AH being the foul weasel that he is had already listed the coin before he gave feedback on it and then only after the seller had left him feedback FIRST.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Be happy this piece of crap only upgraded the coin two points. Typical ACG could be 3-5 points overgraded and the coin could be problemed or counterfeit.

That's a good one Dog, foul weasel! I like it! image

I have been watching AH buy a lot of PCGS and NGC material. Word on the street is he is taking a lot of these coins and sticking them in ACG slabs to take to Charlotte.
