Is it worse to sell overgraded ACG coins or similarly overgraded raw coins?

Is it worse to sell overgraded ACG coins or similarly overgraded raw coins?

For that matter, why do we (the forum "community") spend so little time complaining about overgraded raw coins but react so violently to (intentionally?) overgraded slabs?

With the ACG coins, you do get the free holder

I think it's because third party grading services are ostensibly neutral. We all know that dealers (except those who deal exclusively in patterns) are trying to rip us off.

That's like asking whether its better to shoot somebody or knife them. They are both capital offenses. image

I think it is worse with ACG, or any over-graded holdered coin, simply because there is added trust, especially by newbies who haven't learned who is who in the grading business, with holdered coins... therefore, people may pay more if the holder says something, when in fact the coin is of worse quality.

  • Trust is nearly the most important thing among people (faith is the first, to me).

Raw coins are a matter of salesman/saleswoman-ship. However, a holder implies professional opinion.

I picked up a couple of (name withheld) grading service 2001-D Sacs recently (I'm still looking for a low-cost 65 image ). Both of them were overgraded by three points minimum, one maybe even four. I don't know all that much about grading lots of varieties, but I really know my Sacs. These were blatantly overgraded, and not even close to the standards of someone who enjoys them like me.

Now, when I resell them, I will give my own opinion with the coins on auction (I couldn't live with myself otherwise), but I will hopefully keep my buyers/bidders well informed enough to help them make a good decision about whether or not the coin is good for their needs/wants.

If not faith, at least trust...

selling overgraded coins to anyone, be they graded or raw is wrong.......stick with the better grading companies, and if selling raw be honest. if you know someone that is selling overgraded coins avoid him . seek out the better dealers.image
