I understand that it is a rare card, and I think it is an excellent addition to a terrific set, but over 4x SMR shocked me a little as well.
I have a question that I know has gone on many times before on these boards. Does the fact that the card came from DSL deminish, enhance, or play no part in the value of the card. I have bought a few cards from said seller in the past and I have been more than pleased with my purchace, but I was curious of the view of the experts.

With only half a minute to go, 'drivard' was high bidder at just over $ 800. Then, with 26 seconds to go, 'shasz' bid, so the price shot up to just over $ 1,400. Then, with 14 seconds left, 'gaspipe26' bid $ 1,825, which wasn't enough to overtake 'shasz'. So, with only 4 seconds left, 'gaspipe26' made one final topper bid of over $ 2,200 to snatch away the card, just in the nick of time.
Its a classic case of buy the card not the holder. The scan was a good one so the card could be inspected right. Its a beauty and I could find nothing wrong with it but I am not as critical as others.
Throw the SMR out the window on this one as well as many other cards. It is a free market economy. With only 2 PSA 9's out there, there isn't enough information to accurately price a PSA 9 Yaz, as for a 69 Mantle PSA 9 it's a little easier since there are 28 PSA 9's and they sell regularly compared to the Yaz. It was a rare opportunity for someone to pick up this card and Bob jumped on it. He's experienced enough and knows exactly what he is doing. He realizes how tough this card is. You could scratch your head at many cards that sell for more than you would think they are worth. Look at 1957 Topps baseball there are commons that regularly sell for more than star cards because of the fact that the are scarce and are tough to find while star cards are readily available in that condition. The SMR just isn't a true reflection of the market.

Buying 1957 Baseball PSA 8 or higher. Especially Checklists, and Contest Cards. Topps1957psa8set@aol.com
I'm not surprised by the final price. I knew my $1,400 was a long shot to win. There's no way SMR could be right on this card. There's no sales history behind it. Even the Yaz in a PSA 8 will sell for 2-3x SMR. Congrats to the winner.

Looking for well centered 1958 topps baseball psa 8 and up. Also dying for a 70 Aaron All Star in PSA 9.
I like vintage stuff and all but I'd seriously have to have nothing better to do with my money that to spend that kind of cash on a 10th year Yaz card. Especially with all the unopened 1969 stuff still out there. That can't be a profitable venture.
There are 38 8s (which is low for a 69 star card) and 2 9s. The 8s usually sell for $150 or higher. I don't know where the other 9 resides. DSL must have broken some vending boxes. They were the source for most of the high grade Shannons as well as some other tough cards. The few cards that I purchased from them looked pack fresh.
The population for the Yaz in PSA 9 may indeed increase over time, but I don't think it will get very high. It's a condition sensitive card. Five years later and I'm still waiting to see the first Brock PSA 9 get graded. Though there may be a decent amount of unopened still out there, a significant % of the cards that would come from that material will not be PSA 9 quality.
I understand that this is a rare find. I also believe this may be one of those "gotta have it" cards, but I was more interested in what part the seller plays in the final price. I think that Stump said it nicely. The scan was a nice one and it was the card that sold and not the holder.

Is it just me or is there some sort of mark on the top left border. Is that from the scan or is it on the card? Looks to be some sort of blue mark. I would say its a decent scan...but I would not call it a great scan.
I think the mark on the upper left is on the holder. As far as the card gos, it may be the nicest example of this card to exist. Time will tell. This is a very tough card to find in high grade. They are just not out there. Even the 8's bring a premium. I am a little biased being a 69 collector but I think Bob will do ok on this card.
This card was an opportunity to get 1 of the real rare 1969 cards. There was another graded a couple of years ago but it never hit the market and I never saw it. I dont believe it resides in any of the top 69 sets, so it probrably belongs to a Yaz collector or a Red Sox collector. I'm sure another will pop up eventually but it will always be tough and I'm not looking to sell it any time soon or ever. Whether its a true 9 or not I'll let you know when I get it. I probrably paid a little too much for it but , what the hell. If a Brock ever pops up it will sell for even more.
Great call Bob and hooray for you. Getting what you want is what its all about. I hope you enjoy the card for a long time. I know I enjoy looking at mine and do it every week.
DSL is terrific.they work hard. never a problem.however when i see an item of interest i sometimes wonder if they have more of that particular card for future sale.

Does anyone have the POP of this card handy? Also, are most of them in firmly in sets already?
