Check out this Mint Babe Ruth card

This one's a real beauty! I honestly believe some people try for negatives.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
  • "A fine example" indeed... I would maybe pay the .99 if shipping was paid by the seller. $8.00 for shipping? That card isn't even worth a toploader to store it in. "Baron" is lucky he put a scan up as I would be mighty bent out of shape if I bought this card without seeing it.
Always looking for pre 1990 rookies and stars, pre 1970 baseball (all) and HOF game used.

I don't have any problem with this auction. He over-grades the card, but his scan is good enough that anyone with sense can know the truth. His shipping charge is excessive but stated up front. Anyone who buys this can see what they are getting and make an informed decision.

The worst problem in the hobby is people selling overgraded cards that you can't easily avoid -- that is what we should be complaining about. People who do this are making money off of people who don't know enough to complain, they are reducing the prices paid for good material, because people who have been burned once will assume that everyone is selling overgraded stuff, and they are making it harder for those who want the good material to find it amongst all the overgraded stuff.

Bruce, I agree with your comment about people being afraid to bid. I picked up a gorgeous 75 baseball set recently for $550 and based on what I paid for a vending box, this set was worth $1200 easily. My high bid was $900 so I was extremely happy at $550. The guy had a perfect feddback and I took a chance. Because of people getting burned so much on EBay, that's why I got such a good deal on it.

The $8 in shipping fees is because he likes to send the card 2-3 Registered Mail, insured for its high book value. You can take the risk of it getting lost by not using his recommended shipping methods, though.
