Has anyone submitted any Morgan GSAs for grading?

I did buy one at the LB show just to have an example of one. It was a crescent tone 83 cc GSa graded ms64. I would never submit one as I don't see a need to. I feel it is a way to drive the prices up. People should feel comfortable to grade these themselves.

    Tootawl,

Although I handle many GSA's, I've not yet submitted any to NGC.

I'm certainly not against the idea, and in fact, am glad that one of the major grading services decided to recognize that the GSA holders themselves have value in the eyes of many collectors. Hopefully this will stem some of the crackouts.

Having said all of that, I do have some concern that over a period of time, the new NGC grading tags will damage the plastic. I've seen other types of stickers with strong adhesives do just that. I may even buy a low grade piece or two and remove the grading tag myself to see how easily it's removed.

While it'd be nice to see NGC here for the long haul, companies come and companies go. I personally don't want to see my GSA's damaged by grading tag so I'll hold off for now.

GSAguy, Do you think NGC or someone else are thinking of grading Redfield Morgans?

    Tootawl,

Grading Redfields? That's an interesting question and one I hadn't considered. I would assume that if NGC deems their GSA program to be a success (ie profitable), they 'might' consider Redfields. It certainly wouldn't be a big leap in technology.

However, the market for Redfields is quite a bit thinner than the GSA market and therefore the volume of submissions may not make it feasible.

    Good questions.

    Stman,

I DO see a benefit so NGC grading the GSAs in the box; it facilitates buying over the web and it probably via newpapers too, although I've yet to see an ad for one.

Since GSAGuy has all the great ones already, I would be more willing to purchase GSA dollars graded by NGC sight'unseen. In the past, I never bothered because most all that I looked at seemed to be the worst of the worst, and I simply wouldn't take didn't want to take up the sellers and my time. While some people collect the GSA dollars based simply on them being intact as packaged, I prefer to purchase based on state of preservation. Having a so-called independent grade will at least allow me to consider more of them than before.

Gilbert, I would agree it would make buying the Ngc graded ones easier sight unseen. I would be interested to see what happens to the plastic once the NGC label is taken off as Gsaguy points out.

I for one would buy them sight unseen easier if I thought I could take their label off. I just like my coins and Packaging original and would want to take off the label without damaging the plastic.

Makes me wonder if people will be trying to re-submit these graded coins. If anybody ever takes these labels off please share your experience with us.
