I'm not sure i only own a few seated coins and those are for my type set so i really don't know what i'm talking about but i figured it can't hurt to post my thoughts. I hope i'm wrong other than the rim it looks like a really nice coin.
mbbiker, I am not really to up on these coins either maybe someone that collects these can help out? I know this is a better date without the arrows so it would be kind of neat to have an error coin as well. mike
if its a genuine 1853 with no arrows and not a cast or some other kind of counterfeit, (it looks a little mushy on detail) maybe a VG detail, rim damage takes it down to AG or good, a decent filler for under about 20 bucks. would have to see a better pic and/ or in person to give a better answer, sorry.
MIke, look at the date real good with a loupe. There are two rare varieties. The over inverted date and the double date. The double date is about 10 times as rare as the over inverted date. Good luck.
Hi darktone. The image is a little fuzzy to tell much about the coin or variety. However, the grade looks to be VG or so. The last digit in the date seems to be "seperated from the 5" and "dropped" a little. Is this the case? Again, the image is fuzzy and small so it is difficult to determine if this is really the case or just the image. As Ray has correctly pointed out, the 1858 double date half dime is much scarcer than the 1858 inverted date. Your coin may not be either the overdate or the inverted - it may be a simple 1858. However, it is impossible to tell from the image. In any event, I think ALL half dimes are cool and your is no exception. I like it!
