Upon closer inspection... a 1795 Jeff Large cent!

The "disk of metal" that I inherited I finally took a closer look at and was suprised.

It is bent, it is corroded.

I am not asking you to grade it, for it is AG-1, but maybe comment on it? image

  • It's sure not a Jefferson head (S-80 or NC-1). The Jefferson heads are 1795 dated coins.

Foober, this coin is not a Jefferson Head large cent. It looks like an S-78, a common R-1 variety of 1795 large cent. The Jefferson Head cents have a very thin and distinctive head and the leaves on the Jefferson Head reverse are very distinctive. Based upon the shape and position of the date and LIBERTY, and based upon what I can make out on the reverse, this is S-78. TomT.

  • Oops, by mistake I put 1796. The date clearly reads 1795 if you hover your mouse and expand the image. I will post another scan shortly of more quality and altered contrast and brightness to show detail.
  • upon closer look it is not a jefferson image
