Why a reasonable quantity of high quality off topic posts here is good and why people want to post t

I saw Michael Jackson's "new look", have read about somebody's new power seller accolade and intentions to give everyone feedback,
have read many opinions about the impending war and even started a thread or two that were off topic and admitedly so, as stated
in my title (...OT....)
And I was thinking about the issue of topics posted here that are off topic or are only so tangentially related to U.S.Coins that you have
to strain to even find that thin thread...
...and have thought about why i like to read and occasionially post OT threads (as opposed to posting them in the open forum) and
participate in OT threads and i think i have concluded that it satisfies a sense of community.
Reading and posting here is reading and posting to a forum where we know each other. That's why things get posted here instead of
to a different and potentially more appropriate forum.
I for one don't go to the other forums. I don't know anyone there (unless they're from here) and don't want to spend the time getting
to know people in other forums. Knowing the personalities of the posters here takes time and it allows you to qualify the opinions
and thoughts posted here.
This is "home" for me for now (even if i am sent to my room on occasion) and it satisfies my need for a sense of community, which is
good, because unlike my neighbors, to get rid of you guys, all i have to do is turn off my computer.

I'm sure many of us here consider many others friends, and you want to share things with friends. It does give an extra side to the community.
In the same vein, I believe a few mild "troll wars" or "flame threads" suit the same purpose: a place to mouth off a little, a place to definitely get to know another side of a few. As long as it doesn't get too ugly. All wine and roses is boring.
P.S. Probably best to put "OT" in the title so those who wish to can pass it by.
The people of this forum demonstrate the good stuff about humanity.
The more we all meet, the better everything gets.
