See, and then I list this nice example a while back, and get murdered with it. I swear I'm not buying any more common date IHC's to sell! image Buyer emailed me once he received the coin, and was estactic......I was like No **it! I would be estatic too, if I just purchased a mostly red IHC for bluesheet money. Ok, I'm done image

  • Shylock,

I take it that the 1885 is not "toned" to your taste. image

The current high bidder on the 1877 is usually very successful when he pursues a coin. I know I've seen that little yellow man rocking in his chair somewhere before.

Almost forgot, saw an 1877 in a Segs ms/64 red/brown holder today. Nice coin but looked dipped and retoned. A little too pink and shiny, but still a VERY nice coin. Seller wanted in the $4500? range, I figure the coin is really worth only $2k or so.

I`ve seen this coin "in the flesh".image
It appeared to me to be a genuine 1877 indian cent. What happened to it since 1877, I havn`t a clue.
It seemed to be made of the appropriate bronze alloy, although a silver wash/plating(more blue than silver) seems to be added; most of that has worn off as the pic shows.
The reeding appears to me to be of a somewhat more recent vintage, as it appears sharp as if the coin hadn`t circulated very long, in direct conflict with the actual wear on the coin.
I`m disappointed with you,Shylock, as this surely MUST be a rare,one-of-a-kind keepsake, worthy of a generous bid!

A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

Mike -- that 1868 was the one interesting coin I found. The reverse clash is as pronounced as some 1877s, would like to get a closer look at the obverse. The color isn't right for that date but during this "down" time for IH enthusiasts I'd settle for anything interesting to look at.

BigD5's 1902 looks like a really solid 65RB and I can relate to his feelings about the selling price -- he got Ebayed.

Vam44 -- The worst part is it does appear to be a genuine 1877 that was transformed into a piece of jewelry of some sort. Besides the paintjob it looks like a dab of glue was once appled to the center of the reverse -- was that your observation "in the flesh"? For the right price it would make an interesting conversation piece for someone. For me it's a very sad coin storyimage

Michael -- in some respects Ebay is the best source of education about coins, provided the viewer has someone like you to guide them through all the boobytraps.

Paul you are right about the color on the 68. I thought if I could get it cheap it would be fun to own.
  • shylock, thanks for the morning "wake-me-upper".........almost lost my breakfast.

The 1877 is sad, but what is more sad is the seller's description, since he is either trying to mislead the public or he is just an idiot and a pathetic excuse of a numismatist. Anyone want to argue this point?

The 1885 is funny too. Solid? Isn't one particular form of human waste also classified as "solid"?

It really has been a down time, hasn't it??

The Oroide coin looks interesting - Barfimage Is is that Power-Barf??image

Fortunately, there have been some great coins offered on the side. So many, in fact, that my 2003 budget is blown already! If something comes along, it will have to be a long term lay-away.
