Type Coins?????????

when I see an add for type coins its always 1/2 cent, 2 cent, 3 cent, or 20 cent coins isn't a 1/2 dime also a type coin?

    of course! a type coin is a high grade common date coin from 1/2c to $50 octoganals.

    klector is right, "type coin" technically means "of a type" as in you get one example of each design.

    colloquially, it means obsolete type, collected as per the above.

    the 1/2, 2, 3, and 20 are more commonly known as "odd denomination types", and are the ones that non-collectors go 'wow' at, as in "wow, I never heard of s 2 cent piece, imagine that!"

    Russ, i still think that 2 cent piece looks better than 63 r&b.
