Superior's Hall auction results (Aug. '96)

I was sifting through my huge stash of old auction catalogues, (why can't I throw these away?) when I came across Superior's David Hall auction catalogue, with the prices realized.
Remember the stir this auction created? Everyone was cynical about the PSA founder auctioning off his personal collection of PSA graded cards? (F.Y.I. - I won alot of cards from this auction and was VERY happy with the cards. )

Anyway, I looked at what some of the cards sold for, and couldn't believe it was only 7 years ago.

Here's a few examples:

1) several 1952 Topps PSA 9's approx $300 a piece

2) 1953 Topps Satchell Paige PSA 9 $1,925.00

3) 1954 Topps Ted Williams #1 PSA 9 $3685.00 (!!!)

4) 1954 Topps H. Aaron PSA 9 $7590.00

5) 1955 Topps S. Koufax PSA 10 $9,265.00

6) 1957 Topps W. Mays PSA 9 $1073.00

7) 1957 Topps M. Mantle PSA 9 $3095.00

I could go on and on.

This was the set builders dream! Complete set breakups of Topps 52,53,54,55,56, and 57 in PSA 7,8 and 9. The commons prices are just downright silly!

It was only 7 years ago. If only David would've waited till now, he'd be the one with a house in the Hamptons!
