Airplanenut begins his latest and greatest coin research paper! Sneak Preview Inside!
If all goes well, Airplanenut will also finish it this weekend
Anyhoo, here is the thesis... you can pretty much tell from it what I plan on writing... then, when it is done, you can read it! Yay! (for the record, I wrote 6 thesis statements and chose one to edit to become what you are about to read... my teachers constant blabbering helped the writing process, as all but two were written in his class (those two were at a concert, on the program)
"Early American coinage, both in design and manufacture, reflected a strong European influence, but helped America loosen political and cultural ties with Europe dating from the colonial era through nationalistic displays and uniquely American portrayals."
Ahhh...

<< <i>Good luck with your paper! Sounds like a great topic. You’ll have plenty of illustrations, won’t you? The more pictures, the more fun it will be to read. The Liberty Cap Cent is a beautiful coin... So are the other 18th century American coins. >>
I'll try to add pictures... my teacher wants them in text, but when presented as a research paper, I wan't them as an appendix

Michael,
This is a new grader... for most things, it's the difference between PCGS and ACG... and this is PCGS
Are you going to focus on US Coinage or the early colonial? Your hypothesis seems to lead towards colonial from what I can tell. Once we became a nation, it would be expected that we would have nationalistic symbols. Aren't you glad the Franklin lost out on his bid to have the turkey as the national bird? Imagine 210 years of coins with turkeys... LOL
Good luck, I look forward to you finished paper
It took me a while to understand what you were saying because the sentence is so long. Shorter is better.
Anyway, good luck. Please post or PM when finished. Would love to read it.
the designs themselves have become turkies.

As for the types of coinage... mostly late 1700s-1800s coinage... My main point is how we used similar designs and ideas, but changed them to be American, not European (like how Britannia and Seated Liberty are alike)
