Is there a 1950 gold coin??????????

A guy came into work the other day and said his wife has this 1950 gold coin still in the origanal packaging from the mint. He said he might let me look at it since I told him I collect coins and like to look at them. What gold coins were made in 1950 and what would a raw one in ms or au condition be worth? If she (the wife) is willing to sell it what is a fair price?

Anxiously awiting information

PS Anaconda post coin pics, don't post coin pics, I don't really care. I'm smart enought and not to lazy to go to e-bay and see pics of your coins if I want to look at them and then ask you questions. What is it about you that gets every one on this blessed forum going.

I look foward to info from collectors, dealers or anybody that got lost and happens to read this.
Bear with me I'm new to the hobby and trying to learn something here.

Thanks dad (MacCoin) for getting me into this.

  • There aren't any that I know of, since gold was illegal to own between 1933 and 1965. It may be a foreign piece, or a gold-plated coin of some sort.
  • The US didn't make and gold coins in 1950 so it would have to be from another country. Or it might be one of the yellow brass medals from the mint. You know how non-collectors can be, if it is a yellow metal it's gold, and if it is round and made of metal it's a coin.

sentiments echoed. foreign mint, or maybe private mint? (frankin mint, etc).

"from the mint" is a nebulous term - doesn't by an means have to refer to the united states federal mint.
