Is this worth buying and cracking out?

Toned Ike

With the condition of the neckline would this get within a couple of grades from the "other" graders?image

If you want to spen $10 to get a MS64 or maybe (on a good day) a MS65. Feel free! It's in an ACG holder for petes sake!! JUST SAY NO!!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I think AGC grading is normally more than a few points off from the big 3 (PCGS,NGC,ANACS)

It may not even grade MS by true standards.
    `76 D Ike type 1......................is a fairly easy coin I think.
So,no it aint worth cracking out IMO.

I don't see anything that would make me want to buy that particular coin. The pict isn't good enough to tell if those are big hits on the neck or just some spots. I wouldn't say it was a good candidate for a cherrypick.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Hey there. I see a thread on my ACG Ike. I bought the coin a while back thinking I could get an PCGS MS66 out of it but realized that it might not happen. Well, it actually is a nice bright white coin with no toning and it does have that Mirror Like surface quality to it. The darkness is the reflection and the white streaks at 4-5 O'clock and 10 O'clock on the Obverse are frost like from the die (could be die-polishing). It definitely is not an MS66 and I state that in the auction. I would most likely grade it to be a MS65. I can add a photo of it from an angle to this post in a minute or so.

Dog97, you are correct. The photo does suck and it makes the coin look toned and crappy. But it is good for somebody, maybe a beginner, who does not want to pay the $$$ tag on a real MS66.

If anyone feels I should cancel this auction let me know. I do not want this to make me look bad. Yes, I know it is ACG and I bought it in the first place. image

edit: Ok, looking at the coin upclose...looks borderline 63/64. Area 1 has a scrape on it and Area 2 has more dings than you can see with different lighting. What should I do to the auction? Cancel?
  • SemperFI, I am confused by your actions. You have described the coin well, it's good merits and otherwise. The coin is what it is: an Unc. Ike Dollar......MS-64 or maybe 65. Whatever the grade, why not just take it out of that embarrassing holder and put it in a flip. Go ahead and list the coin on eBay with YOUR opinion as to the grade (not ACG's). Do you think that the coin has more value in that sorry excuse for a slab? If anything, you are hurting your bottom line. Just crack it out and sell it for the coin that it is. Otherwise, I must assume that you are trying to trick a newbie into thinking that this is really an MS-66. I know you would not do that, so start crackin'!!

Well.......since you asked. Sticking a newbie with it would be bad. A year from now they buyer will be posting here how he got ripped off with ACG products when he was a newbie.
    NumisEd makes good sense.

  • Not really wanting to offend anyone involved but I have recently spent some Ikes that looked better than the one in the added photo. Whoever ends up with it should either crack it out or stand it up next to their monitor to remind them of the merits of an ACG slabbed coin. Just my opinion mind you.

  • Does ACG use some kind of magic 8-ball to grade coins? What's the purpose of sending a coin to them if the grade won't be right?
    I have icon envy.
