Do you think there will be another Wall Street Rare Coin Fund soon?

Considering that prices are cheap compared to the late 80's when Hugh Sconyers had a fund with Kidder Peabody? So many new, big players in the coin market these days compared to then.
Collecting since 1976.

  • I don't know about soon, but my guess is that it is inevitable. Prices, I guess, would be driven up (look at the "irrational exhuberance" in equities).
    Good question.

it wouldnt suprise me if it happened again. before they just dipped there nets into the water and scouped the fish right into there nets......this time they will have to use a pole with some very tastey bait on the end of the hook.image

From what I've heard this has been going on for a year or two. Not the size of the KP type funds of the 1980's but millions of dollars nontheless. It is being done quietly and effectively. Legend had mentioned that lots of proof gold is going overseas. It's definitely happening. The only question is the long term effects.

But, seriously, not until after everyone's gotten over Enron, MCI, and the tech wreck. It'll take a few years, maybe ten.

Just like any other trendy mutual fund outbreak, when you hear that Fidelity, Putnam, and Munder (especially Munder) are rolling out their Rare Coin mutual funds, that will mark the market top for rare coins. It has been a superb contrary indicator!
