I haven't read this entire thread, but I disagree with Pushkin. I don't believe that Adrian is overly promoting. I have met Adrian personally a couple of times, and he is exploding with enthusiasm for coins - his and others. Heck, it took him 5 minutes to shut up about someone else's PR68DCAM Double Eagle. I think he is showing off his cool recent acquisitions, just like we do. If it ends up in a bit of self-promotion, so what. Legend shows off coins occasionally, Mark Feld does too. They just wind it into a deeper numismatic discussion. No big deal.
Let me be clear - any dealer that has over the top, unique coins like Adrian's and only posts maybe a coin a day, can go for it. If you don't like to see "check out this cool coin... and Stephanie" in the title and the Author is a dealer, then skip the thread.
Adrian - keep it up as far as I'm concerned.
---------------------------- Edited to add... OK, I decided to read the whole thing. Adrian - Sounds like Pushkin is on the fence with this one, so how about going with popular opinion and keeping those monsters coming.

I'm not sure I know what's going on, but, coins ads ARE supposed to go elsewhere. That said, I don't recall being able to tell that any of the Anaconda's pics I looked at were for sale. I s'pose I could have been so fascinated with the coin that I may have missed it.
Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see any harm or violation if I can't tell the item is for sale OR are you operating under the concept that if a dealer posts a coin in his inventory, it is a subtle advertisement?
Adrian's got a link to his ebay store in his sig line. I just spent an HOUR and fifteen minutes over there looking at coins and reading the descriptions! (No joke!!) Personally, I love both but I, like a lot of you, don't want this forum to become another BST. So why don't we all agree that "for sale" coins should, at most, consist only of a link here? Pictures of coins here should be for grading/errors/etc.-type discussions. Eh?

Even if Anaconda was advertising his coins, who cares? I say that only because he contributes so much to the educational content of the forum. This clearly indicates his motive on the forum, which is to be a productive participant.
I've found that there are a very few, but some very childish whinner's in this forum. Not saying this gentleman, but some of the things said etc. are just downright childish. It's like the old addage "damned if you don't, damned if you do". The more we play into/react to their childish issues the more they will continue.
I'm really at a loss to see the damage being done by posting your pictures, even if you are selling the coin. More people than don't enjoy the pictures you display. Let's not let a few speak for all of us. Please post your pictures and if this person does not like them no one is forcing him to click on your Post. It's like TV, if you don't like the show, change the channel, but don't tell the people like like this "show" from enjoying it.
Sure, I'll get a few comments for defending you. I just consider THE SOURCE.

Bear, I don't know if Adrian is all those things, but I hope he is. My "he sure is childish" comment was a response to the "I'm going to take my ball and go home" knee-jerk reaction he displayed when his use of these forums was called into question. As I've said, I like the pictures, probably for the same reason the rest of you do, but I don't think having a wad of really nice coins gives you the right to say some of the things Adrian says. I suppose if I were Adrian, I'd have a different take, but I'm not, so I only have my perception of him to go on. As a lawyer, his pay is based on his ability to elicit emotions in total strangers, and he's previously stated his penchant for a good verbal joust. Often, I wonder if he uses us as a practice range, not meaning half of what he says, only testing his persuasive skills.
Childlike qualities are something we all should strive for. Being childish is not.

So here we have it. A board member makes a reasonable observation regarding what may or may not be the agenda of another.
The member has one of three choices:
1. stop the practice of posting pictures of coins for sale;
2. respond along the lines of - "just your opinion, not my agenda, if you don't like the photos, by all means, don't look at them"
3. or go for the drama: "golly gee whiz, I don't want to make anyone mad, so I'll write a long drawn out post about it, feigning being put out over being offended" Of course, this can only be followed by those who enjoy the photos and see no harm rightfully posting their support of posting the pics.
If the agenda was to get your ego stroked, item three is the pick of the day.
I would liken this to the old "sigh - I'm not going to post here because (fill in blank) - sigh" followed by four hundred posts of "we love you, please don't leave, don't let a little thing like this upset you"

The honorable Bear makes an interesting observation about the child’s mind. However, it is my understanding that there is a significant difference between childish behavior and nurturing the “inner child”. The process of maturing into a healthy, sensitive but not weak, compassionate but not maudlin, creative but not selfish adult involves shedding the selfishness, self-centered, ego-focused personality of the child and transferring these qualities which are negative as an adult into positive qualities, while retaining the wonder, amazement, appreciation of and respect for the feelings and opinions of others, and for the universe as a whole.
What are generally considered acceptable, if not desirable childish traits are a penchant for focusing all events and outcomes on the self. One sees an attitude that includes the derision of the opinions of others, name calling, bullying, attempts to make others feel sorrow for the child-self, and a propensity for drama and a necessity to manipulate. Childish behavior includes such attitudes as “if you don’t play by my rules, then I’ll take my ball and go home”, while the inner child of the adult utilizes self reflection and sometimes, reasonable self-criticism to ask “why do some not wish to play by my rules?”
The personality with the nurtured and mature inner child challenges the rules, if they seem unjust or foolish, in a reasonable and thoughtful way, rather than immediately reverting to name calling, bullying, self-pity and self-centered pique.
The nurtured inner child will respect the opinions of others, even when in strong disagreement, and not whine and cry when immediate gratification is not achieved, or when one’s opinions are called into question.
Civility, reason with strength, a quiet self-confidence are the traits of the mature inner child. Bluster, crying, ego-gratification, even the appearance of being the martyr are the personality traits seen in the childish adult.
By all means, Honorable Bear, praise and encourage the growth and expansion of the inner child in all of us. Please, however, be very careful about distinguishing between the inner child which is wondrous, creative, and quietly courageous, and the childish adult with his/her selfish and self-centered, manipulative, drama-oriented personality, who is quick to revert to self-indulgent behavior, including mean spirited, uncivil, name calling, bullying behavior, and the substitution of sarcasm in the guise of humor.. The inner child’s humor will be wise but playful, the humor of the childish adult will exhibit an aggressive and mean-spirited nature followed by an apology or “I didn’t mean it” – all for the purpose of soliciting attention and feeding the ego.
Please don't anybody leave or stop posting pictures. Please everyone encourage civil feedback on the pictures beyond the canned blather. Or perhaps we should just have a picture posting forum that automatically responds twenty times with various variations of "Wow - great coin!".
It was never my intention to criticize any individual personally. My intention was to object to the practice of posting pictures of coins that are currently for sale on the forum directly rather than on BST. I have seen many mild and not so mild admonitions in the past of members who have tried to substitute this forum for BST.
Even if Anaconda posts no more pictures to this forum, all of his coins are readily available for view by simply clicking on a link. I would have said nothing if the coins were not available for sale, or if they were coins that have been sold.
Rules, regulations and practices, if there are to be any, should be for everyone. I object to a select few receiving special treatment or “special dispensations” or expecting special treatment because some or many members happen to like their coins. Such behavior flies in the face of basic fairness.
Sadly, many members seem to prefer name-calling and flaming to even reading the content of the posts and the substance of the objections.
Is your position, and that of others, that because you happen to like, agree with, or whatever preference you have for someone, that it is OK for them to do what others are not supposed to do? If so, then I must respectfully, but strongly disagree with you.
Yes, anybody is free to ignore the posts, not look at the pictures – that is a no brainer. I raised a concern and expressed an opinion – not a condemnation, and not a personal attack. A post was made concerning child like behavior and a response was posted – you opened the door, I replied. I don’t pretend to have any greater knowledge or higher moral authority than anyone else, but I would like to think that I have sense of fairness. If one individual can post his coins with no objection, fine, but then anyone and everyone else should also be allowed to – OK? That was my main point, but it seemed to get lost in a hail of vitriol and a flurry of posts about how nice certain coins are, what educational value they had, and a lot of other peripheral issues and emotions. There is a difference between trying to tell people what to do and objecting to what they are doing, just as there is a difference between childlike behavior and honoring our inner child.
Bear, I have always had the highest respect for your opinions, even on those rare occasions when we’ve disagreed, and this is one of those rare occasions. We either treat all people with respect and dignity, and hold them all to the same standards, or we are, in effect, not treating anyone with respect and dignity, by lessoning our standards for a few.
This thread is nuts. A member posts pics of coins. The only way for anyone to know/see that they are even for sale is to peruse his ebay listings.
I must agree with some of the others on here. If you don't like a certain topic don't read it. For example.... You won't see me sitting here at my house catching up on the latest zit cremes, birth control, tampons, and pads in my wife's corny magazines because I choose not to read the damn things.
Why must this thread drag on and on and all the arguing, b**ching, and name calling continue. Steve doesn't agree with it. Steve is entitled to his opinion.
The main reason I tend to open a thread started by ANACONDA is to look for cool coins.I could care less about what he types. Kind of like a Playboy magazine. Keep those coin pictures coming ! I need to look and drool every now and then.
Okay, well it's obvious to me that Anaconda started this thread to see what other people think. I do not need to see what Anaconda has for sale in this thread but I don't mind heading to the BST board to see what he has for sale.
So there is no need to continue this thread...right?
Hi Adrian. I very much enjoy viewing your coin photos AND your terrific commentaries. I have no problem at all with your posting images of the coins that you have for sale. I enjoy checking them out. I also love Pushkin's terrific commentaries and super insights. Both of you guys are very smart and intelligent.
I consider it a great blessing to enjoy all of the wisdom that is freely and joyfully shared by SO MANY on this excellent board. I learn something new every day. There are MANY highly intelligent and knowledgeable people on this board and I thank them all for being kind enough to discuss their numismatic knowledge with all.
Hey matt! Thanks for the kind words. At least for the time being, and maybe longer, i'm going to try to resist posting images of cool coins that i have in my inventory.
I'm pretty creative so i'll try to use that creativity in thinking up other things to post. And if i run out of those, i'll just post images of cool coins that i no longer have in inventory.
After going over to the BST forum, i thought, man, if i can post things here that i think are cool, some others might start doing the same thing and this place would be ruined because there are many people who think worn Washington quarters are cool and i don't .....and then we'd have to all move to California and hang out at David Hall's pad to talk about coins which would be cool for us if David had a lot of salty snacks and non-alcoholic beer but his wife might make us leave, eventually and then where would we go....over to rec.collecting.coins...no way.
So, pushkin probably is right. We should not make this BST #2, however, i will try to be nice when someone else posts coins of their coins that they have for sale and simply tell them, they had better watch out because that guy that military presses that cat is gonna git ya!
I sit here in amazement. I read these threads each day, the ones that interest me. If it doesn't, I don't open it. I have seen, not too long ago members ASK Adrian to post his cheap(er) coins for sale. I also have seen members buy and sell to each other on this forum. No complaints posted then. Maybe it just depends on WHO you are, or WHO you think you are. As you can see, I don't offer my opinion much, but this is just crazy. I happen to enjoy his pictures. and the couple coins I have purchased from him. Keep the pictures coming Adrian.

This thread is unbelievable. It is amazing how petty some people can be. Listen....this is a coin forum. Anaconda is posting pictures of his COINS. I don't give a s**t if it his own coins......coins he has for sale......coins he sold....or ??? Geeeeeeeez, I hope most of you come to this forum to look at, discuss, and YES.......even buy or sell a coin once in awhile. I certainly didn't come here to see some professor-lookin-catlover-holding a pu**ycat over his head!!! No Pushkin.....that isn't a slam.....just a fact. If you are offended by Anaconda showing pictures of AWESOME coins.....and I don't give a RATS A** if he is a dealer or a collector.......than you should have to remove that awful picture of a HAIRBALL that you subject us COIN LOVERS to!! Go to the FREAKIN' CAT FORUM if that is what you want.....it isn't what I want....and isn't what I came here for. Man....I thought adults frequented this place. Better yet Pushy-kin.......just don't read the threads if you don't like it. There.....even I feel better now. Show the pictures of the COOL coins Adrian.....and learn that sometimes being RIGHT....is better than just trying to please someone. Besides if you change to make him happy....all you will do is piss off 100 potential customers........comprende?

A woman asked her husband, "Honey, if I die before you do, do you think you will ever remarry?"
"Well," said the husband, "I hope you don't die but if you did, I probably wouldn't spend the rest of my life alone."
"If you remarried," the wife continued, "do you suppose your new wife would live here in our house with you?"
"Well, darling" he answered, "this house is nearly paid for. It wouldn't make any sense to sell it and move to another."
"Would she share our bed with you?" the wife went on?
"Our's is an antique four-poster. I couldn't see letting it go to some stranger, so I suppose she would," said the husband.
"Honey," the wife frowned, "you wouldn't let her use my golf clubs would you?"
"Of course not, doll," he said. "She's left handed."
