The Schoolgirl pattern went for $85,000 plus the juice. The 1871 copper proof set went for $72,500 plus the juice - Legend was the underbidder! image

The 1822 proof set did not sell (I think back to the book on a too high reserve).

There is a case in point regarding illiquidity. Legend had that set on consigment at $400,000. Then it was put on ebay at $350,000. Now in auction with (I think) a $300,000 reserve and no advance on $285,000. Two of the coins (dime and half) are fantastic, but at this point very illiquid. Individually, the dime made no advance off $100k, the quarter no advance off $80k and the half no advance off $110k.

I would be right proud to own that half at $95k net! image

CONGRATULATIONS TO RICK KAY WHO PICKED UP THAT SCHOOLGIRL TONIGHT TO ACCOMPANY HIS NGC-MS68RD SCHOOLGIRL IN COPPER!! I assisted Rick with that purchase and I felt very comfortable suggesting he buy the NGC SLABBED specimen. It is a wonderful coin! His pair of Schoolgirls in finest known silver and copper are simply amazing and I believe he will have them available at our Table (651) at Long Beach. Stop by to take a look. image

TDN: Too bad on that copper pattern set - that was so neat. It appears there are possibly 2 or more collectors trying to assemble complete pattern sets (a near IMPOSSIBLE TASK) and trying to bid against them is like hitting a brick wall. I lost a R8 pattern recently I really wanted to win at the hands of these ambitious collectors image Wondercoin

The Benson 1796 no stars Quarter Eagle (PCGS 45) brought strong money at over $50,000.

The 1871 copper proof set is of special interest to me. Thirty years ago I acquired the Farouk specimen of J.1151, the 1871 copper dollar, regular design. During the intervening time, I've searched auction records of sales that included the most prominent pattern collections, going back to Parmelee in the early 1890's. I've attended auctions and shows, read CW and NN, spoke to dealers; and, I have never found or heard of another example of J.1151. My piece is graded by PCGS as PR66RB, and stands as the only one graded. So, I thought it was unique.

Now, along comes this 1871 copper set in the Goldberg sale, which includes another example of J.1151. So, I guess my piece is now, at best, "semi-unique."
