If anybody remembers back in the 1970s and 1980s when the dealers put together sets of 1880-1882 S mint Morgans and sold them in Velvet lined cases, take a look at the set I picked up last weekend. Click to view.

Are you worried they might get bagged as environmental damage? I found a Peace set of 5 coins in a velvet holder with great toning. 3 were AU, though. I was going to snapped them up, but the dealer who is a big submitter to PCGS even said he wouldn't send them because of that possibility. So I passed, I can still get them but I didn't want to waste $200 total on the coins, shipping and fees.

Anyone have any experience with getting these types coins into PCGS or NGC slabs?

By the way they are real purdy!

That is really neat, especially the 82-S. What do the reverses look like? That's the kind of find that gives you goose bumps, very nice.
  • I think they'll be slabbed. There's no question they're AT, but they do look market acceptable.

If the reverses arent mostly untoned I might agree with dwood.
If the toning is the same on both sides then they didnt tone in that holder they,re in now.

  • They are AT, no question about it...unless as Cam pointed out, they were toned prior to being placed in the holder. I assumed they were not, which means the holder has caused a rapid toning, thus....AT. But they do appear market acceptable from the pictures (not that you can tell anything without holding the coin in your hand). They'd get slabbed, I do believe.

Hey those ATed really nice. I mean they became Market Acceptable really nicely. I don't know what I mean!!
Cool. I bet they would pass muster at PCGS and holder with no problem.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I've got a 3 set of CC dollars and they got the red velvet toning.

They would probably come back "Environmental Damage"

The reverses are about 95% white. Several years ago I bought a set of 'O' mints in the same type holder. All 3 were slabbed with no problems.

  • Send one in...it should slab. If it does, send the rest.
