postal inspectors catch my mail thief!

I've been having some problems with sent mail disappearing (including Money orders for coins). I just got a call that a person was apprehended. Mystery solved, but have to wait for refund and go through the whole process a third time. Persistence sometime does pay off!

Almost as astonishing as the fact itself. image

Out here - you can commit burglary, and forgery - be caught ON CAMERA doing it, and nothing happens. Nothing. image

You can steal a car - be caught driving it, and walk. (wife's car stolen 3 times - no one prosecuted)

Cut down a tree without a permit? Look out - "You in a HEAP 'O TROUBLE... BOY!"

Is the MO that never made it to me in the batch?

  • Yep, second one that I sent "itsnotjustme" for sure, I'm assuming the first one also. Also some ebay transactions (3 differant ones 2 payments each) , my car payments, a credit card payment, and my mortgage. My additional cost is over a hundred bucks for stop payments etc. I'm pissed, but also relieved. All the credit stuff is supposed to be forgiven, but advised to follow up (get credit reports...eventually).
From now on I won't mail from home. Problem is, you don't know you have a problem other than a piece of mail getting lost, until you start getting late notices from multiple parties. From now on I'll mail from Post office.

If you've had mail stolen with personal information (like your credit card payments) you should monitor your credit reports.

You might find you're buying a lot of stuff with new credit accounts you don't know about.

  • My neighbor had her identity stolen 4 yrs ago when someone stole her personal info from outgoing mail she left in her mailbox for the mailman.

Funny thing is I told her about the practice and risk and she replied "oh that'll never happen to me". Well it did and she still gets a collector call every now and then. The first 2 yrs it was hell for her!
