I am one of the people who will defend condition as part of the value of a coin, meaning a mint state coin should be worth more than a circ. example of the same date or a gem 65 is worth more than a choice 63, but i have never baught a coin graded higher than m.s. or proof 67 not only because [when i had a job] i couldn't afford 68 or higher in the series i collect, but the price differential was just to much. Doubling or even quadrupeling [yeah, i know i can't spell] between a single point!
If i had 2400 to spare on coins right now i can sure think of many other coins that i'd rathwr buy than that proof 70 gold coin like a high end m.s. 65 barber half or a m.s. 65 red large cent. This isn't a slam against modern coins, it is a slam against high grade values which usually baloon to rediculas values when the word 70 is on the slab, be honost, would any body here be tempted to buy such a coin if they didn't find it raw and had to pay "slab 70" money for it ??? barberlover

Show me an attractive coin for the grade and I could be very happy with it. Especially when it comes to the older classics where my interest lies in collecting.
If I had to wait for a perfect high end coin to come along collecting classics I would have less coins more wrinkles and be much poorer.
