Are white coins graded more accurately than toned?

It seems that there are separate grading standards within each grade for toned and white coins.
Since toning can generate a point difference, are toned coins graded less or more accurately than their white counterparts?
Or just differently?

I do Morgans. I'm a old time tech grader. Monster toned Morgans are graded LESS accuratly than white Morgs. Toned Morgans are overgraded.

<< <i>Let the market determine the price. Let the grading services grade, without prejudice. >>

Are the grading services really grading our coins???
Isn't it a bit more accurate to say that the grading services are actually "pricing" our coins upon submission?
Is this the service we are looking for?

I seem to lose a point on modern toned coins.

  • DOG I TOTALLY AGREE-If a coin is crap on its merits-a pretty color seems to color the graders eyes, thus a higher grade for a nicely toned coin.
On the other hand-a blast white HAS NOTHING TO HIDE and seems more agreeable to more people regarding grade.
    thanks.
    have a great one.

Grade it the grade it is. Down with market grading! Let me be the judge of appeal & price.
I agree with RC that the services are pricing services not grading services. I remember when they used to grade coins. Any other long time collector remember that? I guess I need to come out of my cave huh?

You might have got an ugly 65 but by george it was a 65.
That was the sight unseen days when Bid and Ask prices meant something. It worked back then.
These new standards take some getting used to.
I don't want to come out of my cave.

a grade is an opinion. how do you judge the accuracy of an "opinion"?
