Put my mind at ease: PCGS automatically cracks out "cross at any grade" slabs, right?

I have a couple of beauts I want to send in -- and would prefer they remain protected in their holders until arrival at Newport Beach -- but do not want them to even subsconsciously have a strike against them by being in another services' holders. If you mark cross at any grade, they are cracked out before going to the graders, right? At least, that is what I recall, if anyone would be so kind as to confirm. Thanks

That's the claim. But, since I submitted a cross at any grade invoice one time where they called me prior to proceeding because there was going to be a huge drop in the grade of one of the coins, I have to ask myself: Did the receptionist decide that? The secretary? The receiving department? I don't think so.

Thanks, Russ ... food for thought (and the hammer). And, we're going to make a Jeff collector out of you yet ... image

Wouldn't at least one PCGS grader have to examine the coin in the original holder to determine if it is AT, cleaned, genuine, damaged, etc (and therefore ok to even receive a grade from PCGS), BEFORE a determination can be made that the coin will cross at any grade?

Mark is right. It is the regrades that get cracked out. The crossovers are not cracked out until the end of the process. If they no grade due to a problem, they will be returned in their holder.

.....i've had coins returned to me as described by mark and wayne and noted as cleaned. i would suggest that before sending the coins in, you call PCGS and see what the procedure is regarding a coin in another holder sent in for grading. you should be able to send a holdered coin as a regular submission still holdered, as though it were in a heavy duty 2x2. that allows for them to be submitted with raw coins instead of a seperate submission to save on fees.

I'm pretty sure a crossover (and that's what it is, if it's still in another services holder) must be done on a seperate invoice.
