Grading questions for you pros

In the PSA grading standards it states that the centering for a 9 is "not to exceed approximately 55/45 to 60/40 percent on the front".

Does this mean 60/40 for both directions, or 60/40 one way and 55/45 the other?

In your experience how much leeway is given in the word "approximately"?

Thanks for your time.

Both directions. The better the quality of the card, the more "leeway" it is given (not all 9's are alike). Even then, you are only talking about 2 or 3 points on the centering at the most.

If you call PSA on the phone, they'll fudge. That's the real answer. If the card is mint, they will often give it a 9.
